Why Having A Tattoo Isn't The End Of The World

Why Having A Tattoo Isn't The End Of The World

OK, so here's the scenario. You've fallen out of a tree and broken your arm and have a limb going through your leg. You get rushed to the hospital and the doctors and nurses all come rushing out to get you and take you back for surgery. But wait, your doctor has a tattoo. That obviously means they are an uneducated, trashy person who shouldn't be allowed to be operating on you. So, you and your family ask for a different doctor who actually has standards and no tattoos, causing you to bleed out internally because little did you know that limb hit an artery. Now, your parent must bury their child all because you are close-minded and more worried about what other people do with their time and bodies than they were their own child.

We live in a world where it is still OK for people to be close minded to others. We still have people who feel that they have the right to tell someone what is and is not socially acceptable. It is 2016 and we still have people who want to label people and shame people for what they want to put on their bodies or do in their personal time.

If you feel like someone having a tattoo makes them any less qualified to do a job, then you need to open your eyes and realize that you encounter people with tattoos every single day. Your doctors, lawyers, teachers etc. could have tattoos and you would never know. As long as someone is good at what they do and they actually do their job, then it is none of your business what they do in their personal lives.

Having a tattoo doesn't make you a bad person. Having a tattoo doesn't make you trashy. Having a tattoo doesn't make you uneducated or unqualified. Having a tattoo doesn't make you any less of a person than the person sitting next you. Having a tattoo doesn't make you a criminal.

No one should have to feel like they have to hide a part of who they are just because of what other people might think. Everyone has the right to be themselves and love themselves. Everyone should be able to express themselves without being put down and belittled by the people they love or even complete strangers.

It is time for people to wake up and realize that we live in a new age. All around us, we are surrounded by people who are fighting for equality, but yet still have the nerve to judge someone based on something as small as a tattoo. If someone having a tattoo bothers you to the point of not hiring them or not wanting them to do their job, you are what is wrong, not the tattoo. It is time for people to wake up and take their heads out of their butts.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
