We shall talk about the controversial debate on "do tattoos and piercings belong in a workplace?"
As someone that has over 9 tattoos and 9 piercings, I believe If you can cover them up, or they are not offensive in any way, you should be okay. I'm not sure how someone having a flower on their arm can think "this flower tattoo enrages me." I mean, from a manger's perspective, I can see how the image of an establishment is key; but, I also believe if you get mad at a nostril piercing, reflect on yourself. I know with the changing generations, it is hard to accept change. I get nothing but compliments when I have my tattoos out from both older people and people my age. I strongly believe if you have a tattoo you can reflect on lifetime choices and you understand the precautions about it. My favorite argument, to date, is between me and my old manager who had a stick up his butt about my nostril hoop.
Manager: What if you were getting a surgery done by a doctor with piercings and tattoos?
Me: Presuming he went to med school, and knew what he was doing, I think it would be okay.
A lot of people my age are saying "the generation that finds piercings and tattoos unprofessional are dying out." But, in reality everyone has an opinion, just like this one is mine.
But, does a fire-fighter's tattoos hinder him/her from putting out fires?
Does a police officer's tattoos hinder his/her job of putting away criminals?
Does a chef's tattoos hinder him/her from making food for people?
Does a teacher with tattoos hinder his/her ability to teach?
If you answered "no" to any of these, please step back and reevaluate your life.
