Being a member of Alpha Chi Omega, I am trusted with rituals of a sisterhood and society that stay within a bond. Many things within our sorority stay within the walls of our house, but there are some parts of the sisterhood that are allowed to be shared. One beautiful part of the Alpha Chi Omega sisterhood is our symphony. Our symphony reflects our harmony as a sisterhood; how we work together as women of a chapter, school, and community to leave a positive influence and leave a mark wherever we go. Our symphony is recited at gatherings and events, and when broken down, the symphony is a gorgeous testimony of how to love others and look at life in positive way. The symphony of Alpha Chi Omega can be broken down line by line, and can serve to be used towards everyday life:
"To see beauty even in the common things of life,
{Truly take in everything around you. Be appreciative of the things in your life and the paths that have led you where you are}
to shed the light of love and friendship round me;
{Show love to everybody, everywhere you go. Always put yourself out there to be a friend.}
to keep my life in tune with the world that I shall make no discords in the harmony of life;
{Be attentive. Be present. Find your place in the world and where you want your "harmony" to be heard.}
to strike on the lyre of the universe only the notes of happiness, of joy, of peace;
{Smile, laugh, be a vessel of positivity in every aspect of your life}
to appreciate every little service rendered;
{Know and appreciate everything that has led you to where you are now}
to see and appreciate all that is noble in another, be her badge what it may;
{Notice what makes every person amazingly unique. Acknowledge and love those things that make us all different}
and to let my lyre send forth the chords of love, unselfishness, sincerity.
{As life continues on, always radiate an outwards feeling of love onto others. Always be a friendly face willing to lend a helping and be genuine in all your endeavors.}
This is to be my symphony."
-- "Symphony" By Celia McClure
Alpha Chi Omega has done so much to help form me into the woman I truly believe I am meant to be. This symphony always brings me back to the basic principalities of life, love and friendship and how through all the craziness of life and changes that always seem to accompany it, I can work in my house, campus, and community to be a woman of character who only sends forth the harmony of this symphony.
