Okay, let's get real for a second. I can't believe our country is even talking about this. This is absurd! In 1920, America took a huge step towards gender equality by passing the amendment that allowed women to vote. SO EXCITING! Our voice would finally count for something, and anything less would be considered unconstitutional. And now people want to play 'take backsies' and revoke that right?! H*ll no.
In a BuzzFeed article, two maps were presented regarding our two Presidential candidates and it showed that if only men voted, Trump would win by a landslide. However, if only women voted, Hilary would win. While neither one of the candidates are my first choice, or fit for office in my opinion, this is not necessary.
Men only voting:
Women only voting: (Which by the way, would never be a topic of concern in America....)
They even went as far as to say we aren't fit for politics. Excuse me? Women have been in politics for years. Why all of a sudden is this an issue?
Seriously, WTF? The hashtag #repealthe19th was even trending on Twitter last week. (Again, what?) One "logical" man said that "If women are the only thing stopping the greatest president this country has ever seen, why not #repealthe19th?"
1. Because if we do Repeal the 19th, that won't allow the 'greatest president this country has ever seen' to take office. All this will do is take 96 steps backwards as a nation. Not only is this a huge step back for the nation, but repealing the 19th would be a MASSIVE step backwards for women. Good idea.
2. That won't do our country any good. So many people fought for so long for women's suffrage, and now we have a freaking hashtag trending that people want to take it away to favor one candidate. NOPE.
3. You can call me a crazy feminist if you want - whatever. I am proud of my right to vote. I am proud of my rights as an American woman, and I am not going to let some overprivileged man take that right away simply because 'women are not fit for politics' or we are the only thing stopping this country from the greatest president this country has seen.
Just going to leave that one there.
In order to vote in America, you have to be at least 18 years of age, and you have to be registered. I feel that that is plenty old enough and mature enough to be able to make an educated decision for the future of our nation. I mean, at 18 you can sign your life away to the military, or buy cigarettes, among other things. If an 18-year-old feels strongly enough about a certain candidate, they should vote by all means. Same with women. I think that this 'Repeal the 19th" B.S. that is going around is diminishing our right as women. Not just 18-year-olds girls, but all of us. They think we need hand holding to make sure our country gets the 'best' president. News flash - not everyone thinks he's the greatest. I don't need my hand held, or to be 'put into time-out' so that our countries chances of receiving the best candidate increases. I am just as capable of making an educated decision about our nation's future as the privileged ones who are trying to take my right away.
