Ten tips on surviving college.

College 101

College is right around the corner! It's the time to discover yourself and have the time of your life. Now that I am going into my sophomore year in college there are a few things that I would definitely do differently. Here are my top 10 tips on surviving in college.

1. Say No to 8 a.m. classes.

Do not, I repeat, do not take 8 a.m classes;hey are the devil. Now you may be thinking that you can overcome 8 a.m classes because your high school started earlier than that, but you would only be playing yourself. High School and college are two completely different things. Most likely, your parents made sure that you were sleep at a decent time in high school. In college you could go to sleep at 3 a.m. because you were up typing a paper and still have to wake up on time for your 8 a.m class. Just don't do it to yourself.

2. Do not walk into someone's house like you know them.

I've seen plenty of people just stroll into someone's house without acknowledging them, and get embarrassed. You do not want to be the person known for getting kicked out of an upperclassman's house for being rude.

3. Do not go anywhere alone

Now there were times when I thought I was big and bad, and decided to walk back to campus by myself. No, just don't do it. Even if nothing happens to you, trust me, you'll still be scared when you hear an animal in the bushes.

4. Go to your professors office hours.

This tip is so important. Do not be afraid to ask your teacher for extra help, that's what they're there for. I even had a teacher who offered extra credit to students who came to her office hours. It's better to visit their office throughout the semester, instead of waiting till the end of the year to ask if your 56 can be bumped up to a 80.

5. Be social

This can either make or break your college career. Some people like to come to college and not make any new friends because they have enough back home. Please don't be one of those people. College is all about stepping out of your comfort zone and meeting new people.

6. Put your work first.

There will parties every weekend but you must put your school work first, college is too expensive to be goofing off. Your time management skills need to be great if you want to survive college. Trust me the parties will always be there, but your grade will go down the drain easily.

7. Budget.

Spend your money wisely. There is no need to order pizza every night if you already have food in your dorm. You need to live by the term "balling on a budget" because your parents will get tired of you calling them to ask for more money.

8. Keep track of all your papers.

Nothing is worst than your professor claiming that they never received your assignment or the financial aid office losing your scholarship papers. Going to college means that you're an adult now and you need to keep track of all your important papers. Nobody is going be organized for you.

9. Naps are essential to your life.

Whoever said sleep is for the weak lied. I'm all about making moves towards my success, but going without sleep is just not healthy for your body, you'll also start to go just a tad bit crazy.

10. Be you.

College is not like high school. There is literally something for everybody in college, but the only way you can find where you belong is to be true to yourself. Don't be a follower because you'll be absolutely miserable trying to be something you're not.

If you follow these tips college life should be a breeze. You have to be optimistic going into college, whether it's your freshmen year or your senior year. Stay true to who you are and have fun, because college should be the best four years of your life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
