How do I rock college? That's a really great question, and I wish I could give you the answer. The truth is, "rocking college" doesn't have a step by step instruction guide. However, there are a few tricks to help you along the way! Like actually using your meal plan, studying your syllabus, and attending class... Unless you're ill and projectile vomiting... Then please stay in your dorm we don't need a "Pitch Perfect" moment in the middle of Statistics. Another great tip would be to use the amazing technology you already have! College? There's an app for that, actually there are many apps to help you rock college! Here are some of my personal favorites!
1. The Google Family
Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Gmail, and Sheets are all in a cute, little folder on my iPhone titled "get those grades" for a good reason. Personally, I prefer Google Docs to Word (alright, I admit it's because Docs automatically backs up my document for me, I'm forgetful, sue me) but if Word is your thing you can still back it up to Google Drive. Having Google Docs on my iPhone saved my butt in my English class when I forgot to print off an assignment. Thankfully, I could show my professor that it was completed and he only took five points off.
2. RefMe
No one in their right mind likes creating reference pages, they're all sorts of awful. That is where RefMe comes in! RefMe allows you to scan the barcode of the book you're using and it brings up all the information needed for the reference, and then creates the reference for you! Not using a book? There's a search bar, no worries!
3. Chegg
Sorry Michelle, but your piggy bank can't pay for textbooks. Chegg however, can definitely help with the outrageous expense of those rather large paperweights (just kidding, please read your textbooks).
4. Amazon
Same Max, same. While I am a fan of gummy bears, I typically use Amazon for college related purchases. I mean if you buy Amazon Student you get your purchases in two days! Just be careful not to black-out on your Amazon app, otherwise who knows what will show up at your door! (*cough, *cough, a 100 pack of post it notes... Oops?)
5. Flashcards+
I am a flashcard obsessed freak, like it's slightly concerning. While I prefer old fashioned, handwritten flashcards I know most people prefer an app. Chegg offers a flashcard app which is designed incredibly well, and has a vast collection of pre-made flashcards.
6. Grade Calculator Plus
We've all been there, it's half way through the semester and you're trying your hardest to calculate your grade using your professor's insane grading policy. This is where GradeCalc comes in. As soon as you receive your syllabus, plug in the grading policy for each class. As you receive assignments back, plug the grade into your app. Not only will you always know where you stand in each class, but GradeCalc can also tell you what you have to earn on the next few assignments to earn an A.
7. InstaPaper
Instapaper is the easiest way to save webpages and articles to read at a later time. The format of this app is flawless, and having the ability to highlight portions of an article makes this app a must have.
8. Forest
Procrastination, a.k.a the downfall of every college student, and smart phones play a huge part in that. I always tuck my phone under my backpack, but somehow it always ends up back in my hand. That was until Forest came into my life; basically you open the app and choose a certain length of time where you are not going to touch your phone. You then plant a tree and during the set length of time the tree grows, if you fail and pick up your phone before the time is over the tree dies. The idea of killing a tree makes me think twice before using my phone while studying.
9. Spotify
Music. Enough said.
10. Our Groceries
There are a million different grocery apps, and technically you could just use the reminder app in your phone. So why should you download Our Groceries? Simple, the layout is A-1, it's simple to use, and if your roommate downloads it, you can share your list with her and she can add to it. No more "what was it that you said we needed more of?" It was coffee, and now you have none. Don't forget coffee, download Our Groceries.
11. Ibotta
Ibotta the app that pays you to grocery shop. Okay, technically it gives you rebates on specific items, but who doesn't buy bread? Once you hit a certain amount of money you can either cash the money out into a PayPal account, or use it to redeem a gift card to places such as, Sephora or Amazon. It's pretty awesome, and super simple to use. Click here to sign up and earn an additional $10 with your first rebate redeemed!
12. RetailMeNot
College is expensive, so you'll want to save money anyway possible! RetailMeNot gives you exclusive coupons to use as your favorite stores! Never pay full price again.
13. Unidays
Unidays gives you exclusive discounts just for being a college student! Just sign up with your school email, and boom. The best part is you earn credit for referring your friends, and that credit can be redeemed for gift cards from one of their brands, like ASOS. It's kind of awesome. Click here to register and start saving!
14. Influenster
As college students we are full of opinions, might as well earn free stuff by giving those opinions, right? Meet your new best friend: Influenster. Create a profile, and start reviewing products you use daily. The more products you review the higher your chances of receiving a VoxBox (a.k.a a box full of free goodies, the only stipulation is you have to review a product from the box). Sign up for Influenster here.
15. Cartwheel
Target's app that provides its user with exclusive coupons, it's a must have for Target shoppers.
There you have it, a college student's must have apps. You can thank me later, or with a package of Sour Patch Kids (I really like those). I wish you all the best this semester!
