People need other people. We are created to be in relationship with others, and our deepest longings are to love and be loved in return. However, in this thing called life, we do not always have those people to help fulfill that longing. So many of us have too many problems, hurts, or struggles in life to even count. Meanwhile, we could probably count the number of people that know about those issues on one hand, or maybe even without a single digit.
I saw this quote online that said, "Sometimes all you can do is lie in bed and hope to fall asleep before you fall apart." My guess is that the majority of us reading that could relate to that at some point in our life. The problem is, we shouldn't have to feel like that. We should be able to get out of our bed, and have someone or a group of someones that we can go to for support. Or we should have a someone to come and lay in the bed next to us to comfort and be there in those hardest times. We all need a hand to hold every now and then.
Even Jesus wanted to show us that having people around us is important. In his last 24 hours before he was crucified, he had special time with his disciples that he called friends. He also commands us to not only love God, but to love people (Matthew 22:36-40).
I know that it is easier said that done to allow others into your personal thoughts and feelings, but I also know that once you do, it will slowly get easier. It's hard to trust well when promises can so easily be broken. However, that right person or persons are out there to give you a reason to trust. I have my very special support group. Sometimes they don't understand, and other times they just annoy me because I'm stubborn and want to ignore my problems. But the point is, they're there. They'll stay there. And I appreciate knowing that in my darkest, I have people to help shine some light into my world.
So my challenge to you this week is this: find someone who needs a someone. Be the people that you want others to be in your life. Realize that not only do you need support, but others around you do as well. Shine the hopeful light of Jesus' love into a hurting soul, and see the joys that it can bring you as well. Realize that it is okay to not always be okay, and reach out to someone with a little speck of trust, to hopefully blossom into more.
