It's that time of the year again, you know when all the people with perfect bodies come out of hiding with their shirts off 24/7? Yea, that time. If you're like me and the majority, you don't have washboard abs and a sun kissed tan day one of summer. That's okay though, there is still time to recover from your way over extended bulking season. I'm here to give you a couple do's and do not's that will help you feel more comfortable with your shirt off.
The first step, chest to gut ratio. I'm the kind of person that isn't really dedicated enough to where I trim the fat off my chicken to keep my abs lean. However, the one thing I will always prioritize is my gut shall never stick out farther than my chest. In other words, if you want to binge drink and have fried chicken 24/7, you better be doing chest day all day, and every day.
Leading to my second point, have a well-rounded workout routine. You should be working out your whole body over the week. No muscle is more important or less important than the other, including legs and abs. Disproportion are terrible, and draw attention to the smallest (your legs) part of said disproportion. So, if you're benching a brick house, make sure you can squat one too.
Back to that fried chicken comment I had earlier, just don't do it. I understand it's amazing, and making me want to stop writing and go straight to KFC right now. It still isn't good for you! You're going to have plenty of occasions when you will have to cheat. It's summer time, you'll be taking a cute girl for ice cream at some point (or going with a cute boy)!
Cardio, cardio, cardio. I still haven't figured out why some people actually like to run, bike, job, walk, go places. If it where my choice, I'd float everywhere. But that's not the world we live in, and the other upside to cardio is it does wonders. It's honestly the healthiest workout for your body, it improves so many aspects of your life. The two biggest things I care about are that it burns fat, and increases the size of my calves.
Here is the biggest take away, the point that you should consider if you could be careless about everything else I said. Your body doesn't define you. While it is nice to live healthy and have a healthy lifestyle, the way your body turns out shouldn't deter you from having a good time. So what if you don't have washboard abs. Your personality is 100 times better to be around than your body anyways! See all you beautiful people at the beach this summer!
