I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the biggest fan of summer. It's mainly because I can't stand hot weather and Ohio humidity. I'm also used to spending summer at home and not seeing a lot of my friends for about three months.
But not being home has made all the difference in how I view summer.
I have a lot more freedom in how I spend my time. Granted, I still have to go to work and get things done, but when I'm not busy, there are so many more things to do and so many more people to do them with.
Now I find myself enjoying summer. I'm still not a fan of the heat but at least there's people here to beat the heat with. Whether it's just getting dinner or exploring the city, there's almost always someone available to hang out. For pretty much the first time, I'm spending my summer seeing my friends.
There's also something relieving about spending so much time with people my own age. At home I get the standard questions from my parents about all my plans and how they're concerned that I'm not freaking out about it. The truth is I am freaking out about my future, and so are my friends. It's weird to say but it's more comforting to be around people who also don't have all of their lives planned out yet.
So here I am with a decent portion of summer behind me, and still a while to go. Which means there's plenty more time to spend with some of my best friends before we all have to worry about assignments again.
