It's summer and (theoretically) that means more free time to spend with family, friends, or that special someone (did I really just write that?). So, what will you do? Where will you go? If you're like me, you'll probably end up at the movies.
That said, here are my thoughts on a few summer movies that are still in theaters.
1. The Secret Life of Pets
A little dog that reminds me of Ted from How I Met Your Mother, a cat who gives zero f****, and a tiny bird who wants to be an airplane. This movie is full of great characters, but in other areas, it fell flat. The plot was not all that original, a few times disjointed and didn't really evoke Disney's usual roller coaster of emotions. All in all, I wouldn't try to deter you from seeing this movie, but I also don't think I'll be seeing it again.
3/5 Stars
2. Nerve
Conspiracy, death-defying stunts, violence, romance, and more. This movie is a thriller for sure, and a great summer flick. It is still, however, only a PG13, so as thrillers go, I wouldn't say it will have you on the edge of your seat.
Still, this film is a lot of fun and features two characters who share prominent roles on Orange is the New Black, so what's not to like? I am thinking about buying this movie once it's released.
4/5 Stars
3. Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates
Stunts, romance, and lots of great one-liners. I have to admit, this is a movie I wasn't even planning on going to see...but I am so glad I did. The movie is well paced, has great character dynamics, and great dynamics of emotion as well. Plus, the cast list includes Zac Effron, Adam Devine, and Anna Kendrick.
Somehow, I found myself laughing uproariously at a kind of humor I usually don't even like-- just because it was done so well (although I will say, it's probably helped that I saw it with a friend).
5/5 Stars
Hopefully something here caught your interest, or maybe not-- either way, have a great time at the movies, and when in doubt, bring a friend
