10 Reasons Why The Last Summer Before College Will Be The Weirdest Summer Of Your Life
Laura Zerla

The summer everyone has been waiting for. The summer with little to no responsibilities and anticipating the near future of college. The summer where you're finally able to be an adult and you get treated like one too. The summer between your senio year of high school and your freshman year of college is one that is highly anticipated but at the same time is one of the strangest summers you may ever experience. Here are 15 reasons why the summer between your senior year of high school and freshman year of college will be the weirdest summer of your life.

#1: You're no longer going to be around your family 24/7

You have been used to being around your family all time. When you get to college and you stay on campus, it's the first time in 17/18 years that you have lived without being surrounded by your family.

#2: Your best friends are no longer all going to the same school

The closest friends you have spent your last four years with are all heading off to different schools in different locations. Some may be hundreds of miles apart and no longer down the hall from each other.

#3: Suddenly you have to buy furniture along with your school supplies.

Forget pencils and pens, you're going to need a whole bed for school this year.

#4: You're not a high school student because you've graduated but technically you're not a college student either because you haven't started living on campus or taking classes yet.

When people ask where you go to school, your answer is going to be "I'm going to [insert college/university] in the fall".

#5: You realize not going to get to cuddle with your pets when you go to bed anymore when you're in college.

Someone please help me explain to my dog that I'm not leaving forever and that I'll be back soon.

#6: For once in your life, you are actually excited about going to school.

Instead of counting down the days until summer ends and trying to make the time go slower, you are counting down the days until school starts and praying that the time would fly by faster.

#7: You have your friends from high school but then you also have some friends from the school you are going to go to.

With social media now, it is so easy to connect with those who are going to your school so suddenly your follow requests are filled with people going to your school and sometimes you may even start to message with them and become friends. At the same time, you have good friends from high school that are going to different schools who are still your really close friends.

#8: You have to prepare to have a roommate who isn't your sibling

You find yourself constantly texting, "Is this okay for are room?" or "Are you paying for the mini fridge or am I?"

#9: Suddenly you and all your friends have to ask each other "When is your move in date?"

Suddenly it hits you that you have to say goodbye :(

#10: It's a new experience that you've never dealt with before

Any new transition can be weird or scary, especially a change that is big. Don't let it intimidate you too much and get ready to enjoy this new chapter of your life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
