As the end of fall semester draws to an end, many students like myself look forward to spending winter break at home as much as possible. (Mainly since I have to go back to my seasonal job thanks to my declining bank balance.) But with spending more time at home, comes the things that you dread about being at home for the holiday season.
The things you finally got used to having to yourself or having to not do anymore and then you go home and your style gets all sorts of cramped. We've all been there, but for the holidays, we all have to put up with it no matter how much we dislike it.
1. Sharing a bathroom with your sibling(s) again
It's like fighting to get ready for high school together all over again.
2. Your relatives asking questions about post-grad life and when you're going to really become a "real world adult"
I cannot talk about any of this with you right now, Aunt Ethel.
3. The ever annoying kids table you have to sit at even when all the kids are in college or graduated college
I'm just so misunderstood.
4. The chores your parents seem to save up for you to do since they know you'll be home "with nothing else better to do"
Likely story.
5. Curfews and having to constantly check in and let your parents know what you're doing and who you're with…or is this just me?
And I don't want to be poor.
6. Going back to your old high school waitress job to ensure you don't actually have to live off of ramen noodles.
Cue fake smiles and pretending to care about you and your overly specific food orders.
7. Your parents commenting on how you could probably be doing better in school if you didn't "party" so much.
I'll be sure to keep that in mind.
8. Trying to hide from that one distant relative that always makes things awkward when you see them.
Please don't ask me strange personal questions.
9. Always running into the people that annoyed you in high school when you run one errand in town.
*tip toes around the store and maybe they won't see me*
10. The amount of social obligations your parents sign you up for is almost obnoxious.
Winter breaks are meant for Netflix binging, eating leftovers, and lots and lots of naps.
11. The never ending: "So are there any boys in your life?? Coupled with the "Oh my gosh, I can't believe you're still single."
Can someone get me a straw for my bottle of wine plz?
