It's that time of year again, when all of us college dwelling students return to our humble abodes for the summer season. As we gear up to get home, we will all experience that awkward and uncomfortable time of in-between. Being so used to independence and trying to find how to live under our parents roof yet again. Being home reminds us of childhood but also shows us how much we have grown. Here are a few instances all college students that return home for summer break can relate to.
1. You eat anything and everything in sight.
Mom knows you're coming home from school so she stocks up on all your favorite snacks. When you get home it's as if cafeteria food never existed, all snacks all the time.
2. You realize how much you missed your family.
It's been forever since you've seen them and you're so excited to finally be back with them. It's easy to see they missed you too.
3. You avoid awkward encounters with people from high school or your neighbors.
If this means ducking behind a trash can at the mall, do it. If this means pretending you're on an important call, do it. Anything to avoid the questions about what you are majoring in or if you're dating anyone.
4. You think of cool things to do with your free time but end up watching Netflix in bed instead.
There's no shame in telling your parents you binge watched all five seasons of "Breaking Bad" and all four seasons of "House of Cards" in two days, right?
5. You realize you miss your friends.
Just knowing it's only been a few days since you've seen them and realizing there are three more months until you will be able to see them again makes you ugly cry like Kim Kardashian.
6. Your parents lecture you on everything you should accomplish this summer.
You mean I can't just lay in bed and watch Netflix all day?
7. Your younger siblings think they can take your status of king/queen of the house.
They can dream, can't they?
8. Driving past your high school makes you feel ancient.
Just think about it, the freshmen in high school are 14 or 15 years old... that makes you basically a dinosaur.
9. You realize you should maybe start unpacking.
But sorting through boxes upon boxes of clothes and random things you found while at school doesn't exactly sound like how you want to spend your day.
10. You realize only a week has gone by.
But it feels like eternity.
