Getting ready to move back to college can be a very stressful and hectic time for everyone involved with it. I know that personally it has been very hard to find the motivation to pack when I want to be doing 100 other things before classes start again. My room has been cluttered with dorm gear since the day I moved out in May, so I thought it would be fairly easy to pack it all back up. I learned quickly this week that that wasn't the case here. I realized that packing back to school can be just as hard, or harder, than packing for freshman move in.
Moving back for my second year at college, I thought I would be prepared. I didn't need the list of suggested items to bring that the school sends to freshmen to help. I didn't need help thinking of what needed brought and what could be left behind. I had done this before, I was a pro now. I was wrong. What I was left with was boxes of things with no clue what was in them and no clue what still needed to be put into them. This led to me unboxing, making a list of everything in those boxes, and boxing everything back up. You may not think you need a list, but there is a good chance it will help you from second guessing what you packed and what you need.
Even after getting things packed and brought into my living room, the panic of "do I have what I need?" set in. Even though I had triple checked boxes and bought everything I needed, I still stressed about not having what I needed to start school again. I thought it was silly to be worrying so much when I was no longer a freshman, but the start of a new semester can be a little overwhelming no matter what year you are. While there isn't the worry of getting lost on campus, there is the worry of not packing what you need for that first day of class. Take a deep breath and take time to relax yourself when packing gets a little too much for you. It is better to try and get things done with a clear mind, instead of a panicked and worried one.
Take the time to go do things with your friends and family, but also make sure that you take time to manage moving back to school. Waiting to get it all done and moved into your home away from home in a few days is a very daunting task. It is a better, less stressful time if you take the time to do it and not wait until the week before. Hopefully you can either learn from my mistakes or laugh along because you did the same as me. Good luck to all the students who have moved back or are in the process of moving back to college.
