Stop Using "Cute But Psycho"

Are you aware that being psychotic is a real illness?

Recently I have researched and read many things about feminism to see if I would fall under the category feminist, which I do. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines feminism as "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes" (Note: sexes refers to gender, not sexual orientation). AKA, this does not mean that I believe women should be more powerful than men, I believe we should be EQUAL. With that being said, I'm not here to explain that I am a feminist or to persuade you to become one. I'm here to explain my disgust when I see fellow females wearing degrading sayings on their clothing. The one specific one that stands out to me is "cute but psycho". Not only do I see this threaded on hats, sweatshirts, or bodysuits; I also see girls actually labeling themselves as "cute but psycho" by using it as a caption or description.

I want you to know and seriously think about these three reasons I will never label myself as "cute but psycho" and why you shouldn't either.

You probably aren't psychotic.

Do you actually know what it's like to be psychotic? I highly doubt it. People who are actually "psycho" probably don't brag about it. Actually... they DON'T brag about it because it's not something many people even like to talk about. It's an actual illness that real people have, it's not something to label yourself as if you're not ill, period. People fight everyday trying to make people understand that mental illness is real. So mocking it doesn't help that population.

You probably don't own a Dictionary.

Not implying that everyone owns a dictionary. But I am most certainly implying that we ALL learn at a young age what a dictionary is. You know, that 1,000 page book full of definitions of almost every word in our language. Unless of course it's slang, but psycho isn't slang. The people that call themselves "cute but psycho" are probably also the people who say that unintelligent things are "retarded", or something that you may not like is "gay". These words have actual meanings and you can look them up almost anytime. I promise it's super easy! You can hit up the library and look through a dictionary or you can use one of your three Apple or PC devices to look it up. Voila!

It's degrading.

Like I said in my intro, it seriously degrades you and all women around you. You calling yourself "cute but psycho" is basically giving permission to others to label you as psycho. Why do you want that? It's used as a joke yes, but this is the 21st century and millennials, especially males, don't care if it's a joke or not. And I'm sure when someone actually calls you psycho in a derogatory way, it doesn't feel too good. Being a feminist I realize that the only way up is if we STOP making females look like a joke, or like a laughing stalk.

So instead of labeling yourself and/or other people as "cute but psycho" try one of these below:

"Cute but not intelligent."

"Cute but didn't pass the fourth grade."

"Cute but loves to degrade my own gender."

Okay, I'm done.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
