Why We Need To Stop Talking About Brooks Ayers

Why We Need To Stop Talking About Brooks Ayers

This man is Brooks Ayers. He is best known for his role as Vicki Gunvalson's boyfriend on "The Real Housewives of Orange County." Over the years, Ayers has stirred up drama on the show, getting into a huge brawl with Gunvalson's BFF at the time, Tamra Barney. He also had rubbed Gunvalson's daughter, Brianna, the wrong way after he reportedly told her husband to beat her when she doesn't listen to him. Both Tamra and Brianna have tried to tell Vicki countless times that Ayers was not right for her.

But then, Ayers announced he was diagnosed with cancer, and Gunvalson had rushed to his side after a series of breakups and makeups. Creating controversy and tension between the housewives (specifically Heather Dubrow, Meghan King-Edmonds and Tamra Barney) and Gunvalson's own family, Ayers has been portrayed as a sneaky, charming-but-conniving con man on Bravo's hit show.

However, earlier this month, Ayers' cancer diagnosis and the validity of it stirred up quite the controversy. This week, he confessed to fabricating documents, which claimed he was treated at the City of Hope hospital. The relevation has left Gunvalson shocked, who claims she is no longer in contact with Ayers and that she "hates him."

Why would Ayers lie about having cancer? Clearly, he has never experienced the horrors of this truly evil disease and how much it affects the families with loved ones battling cancer. Fortunately, he has never had to watch his father, the man that was supposed to be "strong" and the "leader" of the family, await his prognosis anxiously while the rest of the family was hopeless, lost and confused. He has never watched a friend or family member grow continuously ill, nauseous or drained after a long day of chemo and radiation-- or else, why would he do such a thing?

As someone who has seen how cancer destroys lives first hand (my grandmother died of breast cancer before I was born while my father was diagnosed with tonsil cancer but is now in remission), it is insulting and offensive for Brooks to lie about having this life-draining disease.

Let's face it, the only reason Brooks is lying about all of this is to get media attention, so why are we rewarding him and giving him what he wants? Instead of posting yet another story about him to your social media, or airing a televised interview with him there are other solutions. We can, as a society, donate to charities that help families battling cancer, or shed light on those individuals and their families who are fighting this horrid illness, instead of giving air-time to Ayers, a liar who is clearly in need of physcological help.

I hope that we can stop spreading reports/stories/broadcasts about Ayers and devote our time to help raise awareness of the brutalities of cancer and forget him for good.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
