This may sound absolutely ignorant coming from a very lucky girl whose parents have been together for about 17 years, but I'm tired of it. Divorce should not be romanticized, especially not in the media.
Three of my closest friends have divorced parents. And neither of their lives have been the same for years.
On April 2nd, Channing Tatum posted a photo of a message from him and his wife, Jenna Dewan.

I am definitely not a relationship expert, but I do know that true love doesn't die. And if there's anything I've taken away from every single sappy romance movie, it's that if two people want to be together, they'll do just that.
I don't think it's right to normalize divorce. It has become such a phenomenon in society today that each time it happens, people aren't even slightly phased.
Personally, just the thought of divorce scares me. Not only does it affect the two people going through it, but also their children.
As aforementioned, three of my friends have divorced parents. And none of it has been pretty. I've watched my friends ponder the reasons their parents are no longer together, and even place part of the blame on themselves.
It breaks my heart. And fortunately I'm lucky enough not to understand the feeling, but I wish there was more I could do to help ease the pain.
I am in no way saying people shouldn't get divorced. People separate for a variety of reasons, and if it makes them happy, then I support it by all means. I just don't like how normalized divorce has become on the media and just in everyday life.
I also view Channing and Jenna's decision to publicly announce it as extremely brave, especially with social media today. It takes a lot to openly admit something as drastic as divorce, but it was smart of them to do so to avoid any "alternative facts ;)" as they quoted in their note.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom. And now Channing and Jenna.
"Love is dead" is the response many fans had to Channing and Jenna's note. I know it's almost a joke, but it makes me sad to see people's loss of hope in love as a whole.
Love is not dead. It's like a flower. It only dies if you let it.
