College is supposed to be about finding yourself, right? That's what I've always heard. I mean, its probably one of the most dramatic changes you've encountered in your whole life. You get to live by your own rules- date who you want, try what you want, and pretty much do what you want. So, as asked before, college is about finding yourself right?
Wrong.
Because I was always told that I would 'find myself', I always felt as if I would go to college and I'd magically know who I am and what I want to be. I always led to believe that it was predetermined...that there was a person that was to be found, you know? As if I'm a lost soul until I "found" myself, and once I did, everything would be figured out. Like a switch would be flipped and I'd have a sudden realization of the person I'm meant to be.
Then I got to college. And I didn't find myself. Matter of fact, I'm still working on being the person I want to be. That's the beauty of life.
The beauty of life is that it's not about finding yourself as much as it is about creating yourself. Stop sitting back and waiting for things to happen for you.
It's NOT just going to come to you.
You're in ultimate control of yourself and your future. Don't just sit back and wait to "find" yourself, you're not lost. You're in the making! Artists don't stare at their brushes and wait for them to paint. You can't just sit there and wait either. You don't and probably won't have everything figured out, and that is okay. But it isn't okay to stop trying to make yourself better.
It's okay to be scared, it's okay to be excited, it's okay to be who you want to be. At the end of the day, it's your happiness and not anyone else's.
So far, I've gotten this: Tucker. Coffee & Cosmo addict. Writer. Small town girl, big city dreams.
And that's it. That's all I have created so far. You may have even less than that, and that's okay. When all is said and done, the only person you need to make happy is you. So stop waiting for that happiness to just come to you, because it won't. Create it for yourself.
