Stop Being So Judgmental

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, until it disagrees with yours.

First off I want to start by saying that this world is already screwed up enough without all the judging and slamming of others going on. People are entitled to their own opinions even when they disagree with yours. You don’t have to agree with everything everyone says and that’s ok.

For those of you who don’t know, Odyssey is a platform for people to write about whatever they want, a place for artistic expression if you will. These are students writing these articles, they come from all different walks of life, different backgrounds, different regions, the whole works. For you people to sit back and bash others behind a computer screen is ridiculous.

I’m usually not one to care about what other people think simply because we are all entitled to believe what we want, but on my last article alone, 10 Things You Should Stop Saying To Girls With Tattoos, there were a lot of comments that just triggered hate from readers. Don’t get me wrong there were a lot of nice comments also, but the hate ones are what I want to focus on.

What happened in your life that makes you think it is okay to completely talk shit about someone you don’t even know? These articles that I and other creators write are simply our opinion, our take on different experiences that have happened to US. With that being said, it may or may not have happened to you but discussing it respectfully is going to get me to listen to you more so than just spatting off words of hate.

So many of these comments on my past article were contradictory of themselves, it baffles me honestly. In one comment, a girl wrote how much my article annoyed her because none of these things were ever said to her.

Well, that’s because I wrote the article and they were said to me. Another girl wrote some things bashing me saying “some girl probably wrote this after getting one tiny tat” and then when someone called them out for it they responded with “Don’t act like you know me or how many tattoos I have.” I’m over here like... isn’t that the same thing you’re doing to me? And probably to others who have written articles, you don’t agree with. Don’t be a hypocrite.

The reason I love writing for Odyssey so much isn’t that I get paid because I don’t. It isn’t because it’s required for anything because it’s not. I am a Criminal Justice major and I just simply like writing. I like expressing myself, and I like sharing my experiences with others.

My articles are for my enjoyment, if you like them, awesome thank you for reading! But if you don’t, that’s fine to, but it doesn’t give you the right to bash or discredit anyone else because their opinions don’t fit your own.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
