Let's Start Talking About Depression

Have you ever done something really "weird" and never told anyone, and then one day someone admits to doing the same “weird” thing? All of a sudden you jump up and shout, “Oh my gosh I’ve done that too.” Your embarrassment melts away and suddenly you feel safer.

This is what I believe is happening with depression and anxiety. You may feel like you’re weird or all alone and you’re the only person feeling this way. I’m here to tell you that you are not alone, and you are not weird for having depression or anxiety. When I was 18, I had just returned from living abroad in France. I was starting college a year later than all of my friends. I felt disconnected to everything I had known and I was depressed. I had a huge wake up call when I when I was in a single car accident on New Year's Day. Great start to the "New Year", Ariel. The following month my best friend sent me a pamphlet about suicide and depression. At first I was angry and then I realized I needed to talk to someone.

Recently a lot of role models such as Ronda Rousey, Cara Delevingne, and Lady Gaga have been very honest about the trials and tribulations of depression and anxiety. We all learn in different ways and we all take advice differently. So I applaud celebrities that use their voice to connect and share with people about their depression and their anxiety. I love talking to people, whether it be strangers or close friends, about really deep issues because all it takes is one person to summarize how you feel and all of sudden you don’t seem so different or alone because someone else is going through the same struggle. Here are some videos I really love. Famous or not these subjects should be talked about.

My most favorite quote ever is "Only with the wings of triumph can you overcome the roots of tragedy." What this means to me is that with every battle life gives you, it is your choice to be a survivor or a victim.

"Be comfortable in your own shoes, because you're gonna be in them for awhile."- Cara Delevingne

Okay guys hear me out, I know this video is a long one but it will suck you in!

We're all going to have our bad days and our good days but the important thing to remember is never give up, there will always be someone rooting you on, and that person is YOU.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
