The Stages Of Crafting

It's like a trip to Mordor but a slightly less chance of death and kinda fun.

It seems like every future soccer mom is born with the gift to craft. Whether it's scrapbooking or painting or knitting, they all have their niche or several. However, some of us were not so fortunate to just be blessed by the crafts gods and everything turn out looking like it's straight off a Pinterest board or a Martha Stewart catalog. It can be a very long and scary road to get to the finish product that's just good enough to live with and hang in the back corner of your bedroom.

The Idea

Scrolling through Pinterest is my favorite pastime and I would most certainly put it on my eharmony profile as such. But it can also be very stressful. There's so many options and there's so much pressure to pick the right one but also something easy enough that you can do and not make it look like a rainbow threw up.

Supplies Shopping

It's kind of like going grocery shopping while hungry. Very bad idea. While looking for the things you need for this project, so many other ideas pop into your head so you buy the stuff for it. Only to realize at the counter that you've nearly spent $75 on canvases alone. And did you really need four different shades of blue?

Beginning

Start by sketching out the design a couple times before fully committing it the canvas or whatever material your working with. Then was you do draw it in pencil on your canvas you hate it and almost tear a hole throw it trying to erase it because you're so frustrated. Then you finally beginning to glue things down or put some paint on it and the overwhelming anxiety you feel forces you to take a break.

Middle

You get over your little break down and take a look at what you've done so far and it's not too bad. A few mess ups here and there but no one will notice. But what if they do? Will they think you didn't take your time? Or that you don't care? Or that you're untalented? Then more anxiety sets in but you work through it.

Finally Finishing

After what seems like days (it's only been like 45 minutes) you're finally done with you masterpiece. You hold it up in front of you and try to find every messed up brush stroke or thing out of place. You run to your mom and ask if she can tell that there's a different shade of pink in that one spot because you mixed the wrong color together and she looks at you like you're insane.

Displaying

You have to look for that perfect spot, one where not too many people will see it but one where the people who will see it won't make you want to crawl in a hole if it's awful. After you find that spot it takes about ten minutes to get it straight on the wall.

Or Giving It Away

You have nightmares about this moment. You didn't have enough money to get your best friend something for her birthday so you painted her favorite quote on a canvas for her. She's about it open it at her party in front of everyone and you think about jumping towards her and snatching it out of her hand so no one else will see it.

Satisfaction

You achieved something and made something pretty. While it might not look like something that should be displayed at the MET, but also theres a very large canvas their that's just a solid shade of blue and nothing else so come on; You did something that is worth being proud of.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
