For most, crafting is a hobby that not only relieves stress but also leaves the crafter with a beautiful piece of art to display. But unfortunately, not everyone has a knack for crafting.
1. It Can Get Pricey
I shudder when I look into my crafting bucket. There are over a dozen bottles of acrylic paint, 20 or so paintbrushes, hot glue sticks, and several jars of ModPodge. It all adds up very quickly, especially when ModPodge runs about 13 bucks a pop. Keep in mind, I’m currently trying to run my life on a college budget. Whenever I purchase a new spool of burlap twine, I’m using money that could be going towards a couple of packages of ramen.

2. It Can Be Messy
I just moved into my apartment about a month ago, and there’s already a huge stain on the carpet from a little mishap with jet-black paint. Our dining table also has a bunch of the annoying little hot glue gun residue strings (I’ve been telling my roommates that they’re spider webs for a laugh). And don't you dare mention the G-word (GLITTER). It can be cleaned up, but really…who wants to deal with that?

3. It Can Be Painful
Yes, you read that correctly. Crafting can hurt. A LOT. Maybe I’m just clumsy and uncoordinated, but crafting can lead to a trip to the doctor. I have a couple of scars from a hot glue gun incident, and threading a needle has never been a crowd favorite. (Don’t even get me started on papercuts.)
4. It Can Be Disappointing
All of these seemingly flawless DIY projects on Pinterest never seem to turn out well for me. Whenever I try to replicate artsy canvases with beautiful calligraphy, it pretty much looks like a seven-year-old did it. With the intentions of gifting these crafts, it just doesn’t seem fair to give someone that I love an ugly canvas. Sometimes I can't even bare looking at the finished product. I’m just a sorority girl trying to craft for her little, can’t the Crafting Gods give me a break…?!

5. It Can Be Time Consuming
Depending on the project, crafting can take anywhere from a couple of hours to multiple days. I once found a cool paper flower garland project that took me over two weeks to make. I was surprisingly very content with the end product, but those are two weeks of my life that I will never, ever get back. After too long of a time working on a project, the thing that I look forward to most is being DONE.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a couple of successful crafting sessions in my many attempts. There really isn’t anything more satisfying than taking a step back and looking at that A1 job you did on your newest crafting baby. But every time I finish a big project, I just need to recuperate and take a break from my love-hate relationship with crafting.
But of course it's not long before my crafting bucket is spilled out on the floor, and I'm back at it all over again.
