Every college student is ready and excited for next week, which is also known as spring break. Some students are going back home for the first time since school started, while others are going on an actual break to California, Mexico, or some other cool place. I, on the other hand, am not going anywhere cool. Here is a list of things that can be done during spring break other than vacationing, things I will be doing.
1. Catching up on much-needed rest.
The only thing that I know I am looking forward to is that one extra hour of sleep. This may not seem like much of a difference but to a college student, it's heaven. I am really looking forward to being able to sleep with no consequence if I stay in bed a while longer. Now that is literally the dream.
2. Unfortunately, still doing schoolwork.
I will continue working on school related matters such as a research paper that I have been assigned, as well as other assignments. While the other assignments are simple, the research paper requires reading. This meaning a couple Journal Articles and several books on my topic need to be read and analyzed. To my surprise, I am slightly excited, since I was allowed to pick a topic that interested me. I am looking forward to what I can find that I didn’t know.
3. Finishing all the reading I've neglected earlier in the semester.
I will also be playing the game of catch up. Catching up with my school reading is something else I plan on doing during my spring break. I don’t know about anyone else, but spring semester has been kicking my behind. I plan on catching up and getting just a bit ahead.
4. Going to my actual job.
I am going to be working at my job at tutoring high school kids. This is what I do on a usual week so why stop? I know a lot of other students who will be working during this break, they do not have the luxury of taking a break from a paying position. Bills have to be paid, they wait for one. I know that I, in particular, am saving up for the summer and for next semester's tuition already.
5. Celebrating my birthday.
I am used to not doing anything during spring break, but I do celebrate one thing around that time. My birthday always comes around spring break either before or after, this is pretty much the only time I actually let loose and spend some money. So I believe a shopping break is in order.
6. Organize my life.
Another thing I have to straighten out, my organization. Sure I got organized in the beginning of the semester but life happens. I had no idea what assignment was due when because I couldn’t find the paper nor was it in my planner.
7. Hang out with my hometown friends.
The last thing I know I am going to want to do is catch up with friends who are back in town. Not everyone from high school goes to the same college, so it's nice when we have no school at the same time. Some come further than others, that is why times like these are special.
As you can probably tell by now, my spring break isn’t much of a break as I continue to work not only with actual jobs but also continue working on my academics. But with more sleep, I believe this will be a good week.
