Spring Break is by far one of the most rewarding parts of second semester. After countless exams, essays and all-nighters, college students need to have a vacation from the academic aspect of higher education. It is essential for a collegiate to recover from academic stress by spending a week on the beach with their closest friends. However, as soon as the reality hits that one is going on a beach vacation in a month, a few weeks, or even the next day – another element of spring break comes closer to reality: the bikini body.
Now, I know that everyone vows that his or her New Years resolution is to go to the gym and to eat healthier. However, what I also know is that New Years resolutions end about three days after they begin. This being said, I think we can all agree that the attempt to get a bikini body always occurs at the last minute, and is definitely an obsolete concept of spring break. There is always a plan for dieting and going to the gym, but when it is only twenty degrees outside, everyone would much rather snuggle up to Netflix than endure the cold walk to the gym. Besides, we all need our leftover layers of fat from the holiday season to keep us warm in the months of January and February.
Personally, I find that the battle for a spring break ready body is always present in my mind, in the sense that I am constantly thinking about what I should be doing. However, up until a week before spring break, I do not really do anything to physically prepare myself for spring break. Well...besides shopping for swimsuits and clothes appropriate for the vacation. Then, all of a sudden, reality sets in that in less than a week, I will be clothed in only a bathing suit on a beach in broad daylight; the thought alone sends chills up my spine.
The mentioned epiphany results in me going into crunch mode for getting a bikini body in less than a week, like literally. During this week, I vow to myself to eat only salad and to go to the gym. I always follow through with this plan ...for like a couple of days, or maybe even an hour. But this is just what every girl goes through; we set ourselves up for unachievable expectations and as a result of that, we fail every single time. Getting a bikini body seems like the most important thing in the weeks preceding spring break, but once you are on the beach with your friends – not looking like a whale tends to leave your thoughts right away. Spring Break is a vacation from all of the drama and nonsense you have to deal with whilst at college, and also drinking a Margarita tends to reduce insecurity.
