First I want to start with, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is not a book, but the script for the play. A script is not nearly as descriptive as a book. If you choose to criticize the script, don't be so harsh. You will miss details that you would get if you saw the play in person and don't hate on J.K Rowling. She didn't write it all herself. I was lucky enough to see the play in person. So this review will be on the play instead of the script.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was like a fan fiction. It had its dark-hearted moments and it had light-hearted moments. And I loved it.
It starts from the epilogue of The Deathly Hallows. This is nineteen years after Harry defeated Voldemort at The Battle of Hogwarts. By this time, the Golden Trio has grown up and are working adults with children. I loved the relationship between Draco Malfoy's son, Scorpius and Harry's son, Albus.
I loved the special effects; the props department is clearly brilliant. There was a lot of nostalgia. The play mentioned everything from the Golden Trio, Lily and James, Severus Snape, and Professor Umbridge. *cue a loud groan from Harry Potter fans*
Albus was just like his father, Harry during his time at Hogwarts. Which includes having a sense of duty and being high on adrenaline. I also loved that the play showcased good Slytherins. Like Draco Malfoy's son, Scorpius. I felt that Scorpius was a good friend to Albus and had a goofy persona.
I also felt that the relationship between Albus and Harry was a very real, father/son relationship. Albus has stress on his shoulders from feeling he will not live up to his fathers accomplishments. This creates strain in their relationship. But they also fought like father and son and made up like father and son. I felt this made the play very real along with Harry coping with his PTSD.
Harry also makes a bold statement to the people who think he was looking for adventure during his time at Hogwarts rather than realizing greatness was thrust upon him and he never asked for his parents to be dead and he certainly never asked to be the golden boy who was prophesied to defeat Voldemort.
Hermione and Ron still have a solid marriage after all this time. Hermione is still the clever and level headed girl she was at Hogwarts. Ron clearly makes Hermione happy and reminds to not take life so seriously.
Also I really appreciate that Ginny was fierce like book Ginny. However I did miss Luna and I hope she's doing good.
