Harry Potter has one of the highest paid movie franchises ever, but that doesn’t stop the fans from recognizing its flaws. While it is one of the best set of movies out there, there are several things missing that the fans of the books would have killed to see on the big screen. Here are a few:
1. Hermione solving Snape’s potions riddle in The Sorcerer’s Stone.
Hermione singlehandedly solving one of the most complex riddles in the Harry Potter universe was one of the coolest parts of TSS, in my opinion. It also stings that every other teacher's riddle was shown, except for Snape’s.
Luna Lovegood’s character is introduced in The Order of the Phoenix and it becomes evident that Ginny may be her only friend. She grows in closeness to the trio and to Neville Longbottom throughout the book, but it isn’t until The Deathly Hallows that we see just how much she reveres them. Harry, Hermione, and Ron visit her house in hopes of learning more about the Deathly Hallows and look into Luna’s room. They are shocked to see their portraits painted onto her walls and ceilings, showing them her obvious affection and love that she has for them.
6. The Half-Blood Prince’s true identity
This one irks me the most out of all the ones I have listed on this article. The entire movie for The Half-Blood Prince is centered around this amazing potions book that Harry has. It shows just how smart, cunning and ruthless the Prince was. The character shown through the books helps Harry get an amazing grade in Potions, better than Hermione, and befriend Slughorn just as Dumbledore needed him to. Yet, in the movies, they never even address the fact that Severus Snape is the Half-Blood Prince. I don’t understand why they felt the need to leave that bit of crucial information out of the movies but have no problem adding ten extra minutes of Ron snogging Lavender. Ugh! Sorry for the rant!
7. Weasley is Our King
A lot of the plot of Order of the Phoenix consists of Quidditch. However, that sport was left out of the book entirely. That itself is a crime against all odds, but the Potterheads and I are even sadder that its exclusion leads to us getting no scene of the famous Slytherin song, “Weasley is Our King”. After doing particularly bad during a Quidditch match against Slytherin, Draco Malfoy writes the song as a mocking tribute to Ron, who almost helped them win that game with his sub-par Keeping abilities. When Gryffindor finally wins the Quidditch Cup, however, those lyrics are tweaked to celebrate Ron, rather than demean him. It finally gave Ron a chance to shine brighter than his five older brothers. I really wanted that scene to be in the movies.
These are only a few of my most wanted scenes from the Harry Potter books. I’d write them all, but I’m afraid I would be writing for the rest of my life. If I had had it my way, I would have every single detail, down to the bone, of the books immortalized on film. I can’t say that I’m unhappy with the films, but I can say that I am a little bit bitter that some of my favorite parts weren’t included. At the end of the day, though, I can always go back and re-read my favorite book series to see those scenes again.
