Most of today's younger generation are so involved in gaming that they miss everything going on around them. For many kids, fun is sitting in a nice soft chair playing video games with their friends all night long. They stare into that T.V. screen for hours completely unaware of everything around them.
For some parents keeping their kids occupied is a win in their mind. While they are relaxing, their kids are sitting in that room, only worried about how good they are at a simple game. A simple game that for some unknown reason cost $400. Is it really worth it parents? How hard can it be to take your kid fishing or on a walk?
In the past two years, every time I have driven by a park it has been empty or had one to two people in it. In my opinion not many of these kids that are stuck in the house are close with their parents. They sit in their rooms playing games and fewer families have dinner together as time goes on. Parents, get to know your kids, spend time with them, go to the park, play catch, anything besides sitting in a room.
When these kids look back, they are never going to remember that one time they did really good at a video game. They are going to remember the memories that they spent with you. The memories of taking that amazing camping trip when they froze to death in that thin-walled tent. When they reeled in the fish that almost pulled them out of the boat. Or when they went on that walk and every single thing they looked at was so gorgeous as the orange hue of the sunset surrounded them.
Although gaming can be fun sometimes, don't seclude yourself or your children to the house. There are so many things out in nature that kids can take important life lessons from. They can learn about how the environment works, how animals act, and the effects of littering. As stated by Children and Nature, taking your kids outside encourages exercise, reduces anxiety, improves focus, makes kids smarter, builds pride in the community, and develops deeper connections with the family.
So the question is why wouldn't you take time out of your day to take your kids outside? Go with them and experience how beautiful this world really is. Help them open their eyes to enjoying the outdoors. Create a "once in a lifetime experience" that they will never forget. Let them experience how happy nature can make you. I promise you that they will thank you for it later.
