South Alabama, I'd Choose You Again

I wouldn't pick another school!

South Alabama, I'd Choose You Again

Picking a college or university is scary. How do you know you made the right choice? When you visit a school, you can feel yourself there, and get a good sense of belonging. But to know that you made the right decision, I believe it takes time to really prove to yourself that the decision you made was the best one for you.

It's hard to grasp the fact I'm entering my senior year of college this fall at the University of South Alabama. Looking back, I remember moving into my dorm freshman year, not knowing anyone but my roommate. I remember being excited because of the prospect of so much opportunity, and what I was guaranteed would be the best four years of my life.

College has flown by, but one thing that I know for sure is that I did make the right decision when it came to choosing the best school for me. If I could do it all over again, I'd still choose South Alabama and everything that comes along with it.

I'd choose the walks to class with beautiful greenery and the promise of seeing a familiar face or friend. I'd choose driving across town to go to football games and having small but fun tailgates. I'd choose a small, but competitive and hardworking Greek life. I'd choose trips to the bell tower at night when it is lit up. I'd choose the menu from the Delta Deli. I'd choose having our own speedway — I mean traffic circle — on campus. I'd choose the quiet nature trails that are home to a multitude of animals. I'd choose the city of Mobile — a city that is full of so much diversity and culture, that provides out of owners with a new perspective on life. I'd choose trips downtown with friends and taking pictures on the sphinx outside of the temple. I'd choose living in the south and being surrounded by quality people who still believe in tradition and manners. I'd choose the celebratory yells of "Go jags!" and the sarcastic murmurs of "Go jags!" when something bad happens. I'd choose the good people that shape this campus into the place that it is and that work on bettering it every day.

So, all that to say this: I'd choose you again and again South Alabama. Go Jags.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
