I came to college thinking that I would never go Greek, and well, I went TKE. I have met all sorts of brothers I know I will have for the rest of my life. As I am a senior now, looking back on the past three years, I have come to realize these gentlemen are actually my brothers. I never grew up with brothers, but I could only imagine this is what it would be like with running up and down the hallway, playing pranks, getting annoyed, and making fun of one another. I am extremely grateful for them. However, I started to find myself loving another organization as well.
Just like going TKE, I surprisingly met another chapter and became a sweetheart for them.
The sorority Alpha Sigma Tau, Gamma Pi Chapter.
I was first introduced to these women my freshman year when my best friend, Arissa, decided to go through recruitment and chose to become a sister of this great sorority. From there, I started to meet all sorts of sisters -- those who were intimidating but held a lot of respect, the brilliant ones, those funny as heck, the leaders, and ones who were successful, courageous, and gorgeous. They were all so different but came together for one bond, a sisterhood. Now, this was the first time I was introduced to any Greek house. They showed how much they loved each other and they were the ones leading me towards TKE.
I didn't join TKE my freshman year, but many of these sisters, including my best friend, helped me get my act together and focus on my grades. I started my sophomore year with the grades to get a bid thanks to them. I became incredibly close to these women. The seniors were women who looked after me and told me to keep my head afloat even through the difficulties I was dealing with. The juniors were the ones pushing me to get my work done and helped me create some sort of organized life. And the sophomores were there to help me move along and to never look back. Despite my sophomore year being a difficult one, again, I have these women to thank.
As sophomore year came and went, I found myself facing a year when everything mattered: junior year. I came into this new year more focused and dedicated to my mission, surviving junior year and making grades. The start of the year was great when I surprisingly found out that I was nominated as a sweetheart for this sorority and I knew I had to show them how much they meant to me. The only way to show this was to give everything I could to help them as much as they helped me. That didn't mean putting roses on their doors or singing them songs and such; it meant being there for them when they were there for me. After all, that's what family is about. Through highs and some lows and much not-needed information (that just comes with being very close to all of them), I became a sweetheart for this great sorority. During the year, they were by my side and I was by theirs.
When it started to get down to the end of the year, I started to realize many of these girls wouldn't be here the next year, my senior year. I became used to seeing the seniors and having them scold me when I said something sarcastic. Those seniors taught me so much. They taught me how to be perseverant, how to study (sadly), how to be organized, and how to be a great leader. These women are brilliant.
As a senior, I gravitate toward the girls younger than me. I still have my fellow seniors by my side, creating mischief and hysterical memories (there are certainly more to come), but I look at the younger girls and I see successful and brilliant young women. I wish them all the best as they embark on their new executive positions and certainly as they make their way through the rest of college. These young ladies helped me realize my priorities my final year at Lycoming.
I am now starting to look back on my college memories before I embark on my final semester. Many of my memories include all of the girls that make up Alpha Sigma Tau, Gamma Pi. I can honestly say I don't know where I would be in college if I hadn't met some of these women. Would I be graduating from Lycoming? Would I even be a TKE? I owe a big thank-you to these ladies. I keep meeting more and more of the Gamma Pi sisters and they have only welcomed me with open arms and laughter.
No matter how I acted or looked, these women still helped and supported me every single day. Thank you for the great memories I will have for the rest of my life.
