Sorority Life Can Be The Best Life

On September 11, 2016, I joined a sorority.

I began my freshman year at Louisiana Tech the first week of September and already wanted to join a sorority. There is a four-day process you have to go through to find out which house you are in. It is very emotional and stressful but completely worth it. Going into the whole process, Phi Mu was at the top of my list just because there is a Phi Mu chapter at the college in my hometown and I had always heard nothing but good things about them, however; I wanted to be open minded and give all the houses a fair chance. Anyways, to make a long story short, on that Sunday evening when I received my bid card and it was to Phi Mu, I was ecstatic. There was definitely something I liked about every house but like they always say, "find your home away from home", so I found that with Phi Mu.

Ever since that day, I have felt nothing but support and love from my sisters. I have found friends that are just like me and girls that inspire me. These girls will literally do anything for me and they know it is the same for them. Our chapter of Phi Mu is so diverse that no one can judge you for anything and that alone is the best feeling ever. There are 83 girls in my pledge class, and even though I do not know them all on a personal level yet, I still love them like real, blood sisters. All in all, the girls total that I have and haven't met yet are some of the best people on the planet. Yes, it's true, even the ones I haven't met.

My favorite part of being in Phi Mu is that it has connected with so many wonderful people in my hometown. Not only girls my age, but adults that I have looked up to for many years are now my sisters and I couldn't be happier about it. The creed we live by, beams in every Phi Mu lady I meet and that is a beautiful thing.

I hear on a daily how much Phi Mu is loved around the Tech campus and it makes me so blessed to be apart of such a well-known and loved organization. Our whole chapter at Tech means so much to me and I cannot wait to hold a position to portray my love for this fraternity. In the words of Phi Mu... Love, Honor, Truth.

LIOB, Phi Mu

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
