When you think “sorority girl,” you probably imagine a specific type of girl, right? Well I am in a sorority, but I am definitely not your typical sorority girl.

I do not go out and party every weekend,

I am not skinny,

I do not wear a lot of makeup.

I am not a sorority girl.


I am open and accepting,

I want to work with kids,

I care about others.

I am not a sorority girl.


I am not spoiled,

My favorite color is not pink,

I am not an alcoholic.

I am not a sorority girl.


I like to read,

I like to help people,

I made the deans list.

I am not a sorority girl.


I do not have rich parents,

I am not fake,

I do not own anything Lilly Pulitzer.

I am not a sorority girl.


My friends give me dirty looks,

I feel judged,

“You’re buying friends.”

What if I join a sorority?


Everyone is different,

These people seem nice,

They welcomed me with open arms.

I joined a sorority.


I went out of my comfort zone,

I never feel alone,

I am proud.

I am in a sorority.


I am happy,

I am confident,

I see the beauty within.

I am in a sorority.


I have met over 100 strong and powerful women,

I represent my letters with pride,

I made new friends to last a lifetime.

I love my sorority.
