So, I'm Gonna Be a Big...

Some thoughts flying through my head as big/little season approaches.

So, I'm Gonna Be a Big...

I can't believe it's already been a year since I joined my sorority and got my big, but somehow it's already my turn to add to the fam. I'm a little nervous, really excited, and overall just can't wait to have a little of my very own! Although it's still a ways off and we don't know quite how things will end up just yet, I wanted to share my thoughts with you:

First off, I am so excited to find out who my little is! Although the process is long and suspenseful, the end is totally worth it. I can only hope to live up to the high standards set by my own big, as well. I know we will have tons of awesome memories, crazy conversations that don't make sense to anyone else, great adventures, lazy days, and obviously, obviously food. I hope I can always be a resource and a close friend to her, that she can come to for good times and bad. I'll always be here for laughs or for those days that just call for eating some ice cream on the couch. I know it's cheesy, but it's true! And as big little week approaches, know that I'll be loving every second of it and also be super anxious to find out who is doing all the amazing magic that comes with big little week (not knowing is the worst). But once I do find out, I can't wait to spoil her with goodies and love, and start our adventure as big and little!

I must admit I'm nervous to take on this new role, even though it doesn't seem to be a big deal or responsibility. I guess just having such an amazing big of my own has put into perspective how beneficial having a great big could be. It's an amazing resource to have and I honestly can't look back and figure out how college would've worked without her. So now, thinking that I have the potential to have that impact on someone else is a little daunting. I'm excited for all the fun and memories, of course, but does it make sense to be...scared? Maybe it's just my head talking.

What if I am not all she hoped for? I know I can promise my best efforts every day, so I hope that can be enough. I am trying to tell myself to relax and enjoy it before this, just like so many other amazing parts of college, and of life, fly right by me. I know once it's over I'll look back and think I was so silly for worrying so much over this seemingly trivial thing, but right now, it's not silly at all. I want to live up to all the greatness I got last year, and I struggle with letting things "happen" out of my control. But I guess that's just something I'll need this process to teach me, just like it taught me last year: what's meant to be will be, and it will be greater than anything I could have possibly forced because it will be spontaneous, and a wonderful surprise to look forward to. So to myself I say, relax and enjoy the ride. And to my little I say: I can't wait to meet you!

And one more thing Little, don't let your G-big get away with too many shenanigans during big/little week, but I hope you have fun. And most importantly, I hope I can be a good big to you. I sure do have a good role model as mine.

Good luck to all my sisters on their quests for big/little love this semester! And a huge thank you to my Big, even though you plan to have so much fun tricking me during big/little week this year, you're still pretty cool and I wouldn't have anyone else. :)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
