In just a few weeks, we will be soaking up the sun (hopefully). That is right! We are close to spring break as if we can taste it! What are we going to do for it?

We have all gotten the itch to be done with midterms and head off to Mexico. We want to be sipping margaritas on the beach coast and enjoying the life that we have outside of tests and essays. All the spring break parties of the centuries are the reason that we look forward to setting that last test on our teacher’s desk.

What are you planning on doing for the week that you have freedom? Are you more of the traditional spring breaker and want to drown yourself in the oceans? Do you want to take a trip to Mexico?

There are plenty of places to go from the spring break mindset. Where would you rather go? Would you rather spend some time down in Panama Beach?

There are so many things to do as a tourist at Panama Beach. If you love to party, there are plenty of places to party as a college kid should! There are even places for fishing if you enjoy that. There are hiking trails and plenty of shopping as well. Plus, you know, besides hurricanes, you will have amazing weather almost every time! It is a party destination for the college kids from all across the country.

If you don’t want to go to Florida, there are plenty of places along the Gulf that are exciting to go. Ever heard of Corpus Christi, Texas? It is a beachside city that has quite the nightlife while you are able to go swimming as well. You could also go towards New Orleans which would be exciting as well! We all know of the famous Bourbon Street!

You can also go down farther south towards Mexico into Cancun. There are so many resorts that are right across the border that enjoy having the crowd of college kids that come along. You have the opportunity to enjoy the time across the way and go on interesting hikes. Of course, why wouldn’t you swim either?

HOWEVER...

What happens if you are the nontraditional spring breaker? Do you have a fear of the ocean? Is there something of a party town that irks you? No worries! There is plenty to do when you don’t want to play party animal!

How about going on a hike? How about in a national park? Wouldn’t that be exciting? Some people prefer the outdoor smells and the sounds of nature over the city. You could go to Zion National Park or even just hiking trails. There are plenty all across the United States, even just here in the state of Idaho.

Also, why not hop across the “pond” as well? Go visit Europe! There are plenty of deals for spring break vacations as well from England to France and Spain. It can be quite a handful but so exciting at the same time. You have to make sure you know how to convert money in some countries and be able to afford the plane ticket. However, it would definitely be worth it!

So, instead of just seeing yourself as a beachgoer, you can do other things as well! You can even go on a road trip to keep yourself occupied with time! Go from coast to coast! Go visit California! Go visit family!

There are plenty of opportunities to do something exciting for just the week that you have off! It is a great time right before the summer break! So have fun and do something spontaneous for yourself.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
