Soda or pop is a universal drink that comes in many shapes, sizes and even flavors. This sugary and carbonated beverage has found its way into every restaurant and household in America. Here are five of the most popular soft drinks, as voted by Americans.

1. Coca - Cola

Coca - Cola is the most popular soda in America. Last year, this beverage made 3.75 billion dollars in sales during only the second quarter. At this rate, Coca - Cola is growing extremely rapidly and will remain at the top of the beverage industry.

2. Diet Coke

Diet Coke comes in at second place. Being a subunit of Coca - Cola, Diet Coke quickly gained attention and recently passed Pepsi for second place. This beverage is perfect for those who don't want to ingest sugars and calories.

3. Pepsi - Cola

Coming in at third place is Pepsi- Cola. This arch rival of Coca -Cola was introduced 12 years after Coca - Cola, and has a net worth of an astounding 127 billion dollars. Pepsi still has a long way to go until they can catch up the Coca - Cola.

4. Mountain Dew


Securing the fourth place spot is Mountain Dew. This misty and sugary drink is a subunit to Pepsico. Americans love the Lemon-Lime flavor that every Mountain Dew contains. Started in 1948, Mountain Dew will continue to be an American favorite.

5. Dr. Pepper

In fifth place is Dr. Pepper. This soda was introduced in 1885 and has been am American favorite ever since. With its unusual taste, a heap of sugar and carbonated base, Dr. Pepper is sure to continue to stay a fan favorite.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
