One of my biggest pet peeves is logging onto social media to find that my Facebook timeline or Twitter feed are cluttered with other people's drama or overflow of emotions. As soon as I see things like this, I instantly click the unfriend or unfollow button. Many people treat social media, especially Facebook, like it is a diary! It's normal to log on and see posts containing TMI, or too much information. We have all seen these attention-seeking, paragraph long posts concerning drama with friends and family, relationship problems, and other issues that you shouldn't post about. Here are five things you could post rather than a diary entry:
1. Those Awesome Articles From The Odyssey Online
If you're reading this, then you obviously know exactly what articles I am talking about! Articles from The Odyssey can be funny, uplifting, tear-jerking, and even educational. A few hot articles on The Odyssey right now include: 20 Thank You's For The Softball Dads, 9 Reasons Why You Fell In Love With Tim Riggins, Why We Need To Start Dating Again, 10 Things I Want In A Husband, and 20 Things To Start Doing In Your Twenties.
2. Memories From a Recent Adventure
Facebook is a great way to share recent adventures with your friends and family. You can make posts about your latest camping trip, beach getaway, study abroad trip, and even small adventures around your own town! Share photos of accomplishments you make, cool things you see while carrying out your day, and good times with friends!
3. Photos of Cute Animals
Cute animals are guaranteed to put a smile on anyone's face! If you want to make your Facebook friends or Twitter and Instagram followers smile, post a photo of your own furry friend or just an adorable animal photo you stumbled upon while procrastinating online.
4. Something to Inspire Others
I believe the best way to use social media is to make a positive impact on others. This could be through a motivational quote, inspirational Bible verse, or even a post about a challenge you have overcome! You never know what an impact a simple motivational quote or Bible verse may have on a person.
5. Fun Facts
Ok, call me a nerd, but I love fun facts! If I'm on social media and I stumble across a new fact that I didn't know, I get excited.
Remember that Facebook is not your diary! Use it to make others smile, laugh, and become inspired.
A challenge from me: After you read this article, share it and post one of the five things listed above to spread happiness on your social media.
