Treating ourselves: we all like to do it because, let’s face it, no one knows you as well as you know you. It feels good to treat yourself now and again, especially if you’re in need of a pick-me-up, but is it possible to treat yourself in a way that leaves you with a lasting feeling of satisfaction, rather than a few minutes with a chocolate bar? What about treating yourself when you’re broke—hello, college student here, I don’t have a hundred bucks to spend on a spa treatment! Treating yourself cheaply can seem lame and pointless, but there are a few things you can do for cheap to maximize the “Treat Yourself!” vibes.
How to Treat Yourself When You Don’t Have a Lot of Time
It’s often when we have the least amount of time that we really need to treat ourselves the most, so how do you make time to take care of yourself when you’re busy being a boss lady?
Sure, coffee is great, but if you want to drink something to calm your nerves that will do more for your health than just give you the shakes, make yourself a hot cup of tea. It’ll only take you a few minutes, and you’re sure to have tea somewhere around your residence. Got a little money? Swing buy your local grocery store and pick up a few teas that look good or cater to areas of your life that need more attention—chamomile tea for sleep and stress, peppermint tea for digestion and sore throat, fruity tea for fun!
The next time you have five, or even ten, minutes instead of turning to your phone, close your eyes. Set a timer for yourself if you want, or try out one of the many really great meditation apps that offer five and ten minute meditations. Even a few minutes of quiet time away from technology where you actively spend time doing nothing can help center you and increase your focus.
Give your hands and feet some gentle attention
You use your hands a lot, and you’re likely to be on your feet most of the day, so why not treat your overworked appendages? Set a reminder on your phone to rub your hands with a moisturizing lotion, you should have some lying around, for a few minutes each day and you’ll be on your way to softer and more cared for hands. If you have a little more time, say 20 minutes or so, fill a basin with some warm water and a few drops of your favorite essential oil for a fragrant foot soak.
How to Treat Yourself When You Don’t Have a Lot of Money
Do you ever see your friends posting about something they bought to treat themselves and wished that you could do the same? Well, you can. It doesn’t take any money to treat yourself, just a little creativity.
Have some money? Buy yourself a pair or two of fuzzy socks
Again, take care of your feet and you’ll really feel pampered, so why not spend a few of your hard earned dollars to get yourself some warm fuzzy socks? Better yet, toss them in the dryer for a few minutes before putting them on and feel your worries melt away.
Have no money? No problem! Be nice to yourself
There are a lot of ways to be nice to yourself without spending any money. Write yourself a love note to read later in the week, give yourself a compliment, take a deep breath, take a nap, give yourself a neck massage, have a snack, and the list goes on and on. You don’t have to be rich to feel good about yourself.
Want to feel beautified on a budget? Research some DIY skincare
You might not know this, but you have a spa in your kitchen cupboards. No more excuses for not being able to afford an expensive cleanser or face mask because you have everything you need. Google some easy DIY skincare recipes and try one out. Make yourself an oatmeal facemask, a honey and cinnamon face scrub, or a strawberry and yoghurt facial moisturizer. The best part? You can eat the beauty supplies you don’t use—a spa session and a snack!
Is it possible to treat yourself when you’re busy, broke, and bogged down? Yes, yes it is; in fact, no matter what your situation is, you can always treat yourself to a little self-love simply by giving yourself a hug. No really, go ahead…feels good, doesn’t it? Don’t let excuses stand in your way, treat yourself to self-care that you can always feel good about.
