I feel like all high school kids say the four same words at least once a day at school.
These words are "I need more sleep." I'm an expert at saying this phrase as I, just like other high school kids, need to get eight hours of sleep to properly keep my body growing. I usually get from six to seven hours, but never more than that due to simple procrastination and homework.
Kids in my class around me often fall asleep and struggle to wake up due to their simple lack of proper rest. I remember a kid falling asleep during a test in my freshman year and waking up 10 minutes before the period was done with three questions out of 20 done.
Sleeping late can lead to memory loss or lack of nutrition. It has been proven by scientists in Canada that sleeping leads to more cravings, and this can be unhealthy for the body if the cravings are for sugar or fat-filled foods.(1) Lack of sleep can lead to other problems as well such as higher blood pressure and a larger amount of stress.
Sleeping early helps us gain the proper nutrients required to function and, not to mention, helps keep us in better shape overall. We aren't built for the constant struggle of staying up to two a.m., so when we don't have a workload that breaks our backs, we should take some time to sleep early.
