10 Things To Stop Saying To Skinny People

Skinny shaming is just as bad as fat shaming.

10 Things To Stop Saying To Skinny People

You might not know it, but the following statements are insulting and hurtful to skinny people. I am looking at you, Meghan Trainor.

1. "Are you anorexic/bulimic?"

Eating disorders are never a joke, so don't be an ass and joke about them. Also, telling me I look like I have one is damaging to my mental health.

2. "You need to eat a hamburger."

The only thing I will get from a hamburger is cholesterol. I eat all the time; a hamburger will not help me gain weight.

3. "If you turned sideways, you would disappear."

Thank you so much for reminding me that I have no boobs or butt. That totally makes me feel beautiful.

4. "I hate you, you're so skinny."

Have you ever thought about the fact that I also hate how skinny I am? I do not need you hating me as well.

5. "You look sickly."

That totally is exactly what I needed to hear today. You just managed to send my confidence right into a hole in three words. It will now take three months to get that confidence back.

6. "Real women have curves."

So what am I? Real women come in every shape and size. But thanks for basically saying a look like a 12-year-old boy and that no guy will want someone as skinny as me.

7. "You are not allowed to complain."

If you can complain about not finding jeans that fit, then so can I. It is hard to find clothes that are not in the kids' section.

8. "Why do you even work out?"

Every human needs to work out for their health. Since I am human, I do in fact work out.

9. "You look like a twig."

Would you like it if someone told you that you looked like a log? I did not think so.

10. "You have no reason to be self-conscious."

Just because I am skinny does not mean I love myself. I constantly think that I am too skinny, that I have no boobs or butt, and that there is more to be self-conscious about than my body.

Let's just accept all body types. Everyone is beautiful. Stop skinny shaming.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
