Living a healthy lifestyle is vital to creating a better version of yourself. Many people believe that if they exercise, they are healthy, which is partially true. To be healthy, you must take optimal care of your mind, body and soul, not just your body! These three parts are interrelated and all significant in attaining a healthy lifestyle.

1. Think positive thoughts

The mind is so powerful that you can change your life by changing your thoughts. Everything in the physical realm is a manifestation of the mental realm; your reality is a product of your thoughts. Your thoughts are energy sent into the universe on a vibration/frequency, and the universe simply responds to our thoughts within that same frequency. Having a positive mentality is a healthy mentality, and thinking great thoughts will manifest great things.

2. Speak positive words

Ever realize that you're talking to yourself? Well, self-talk can be some of the most beneficial or detrimental conversations you partake in. Just as we have the power to create with our minds, we also have power to create with our words. Words are energy and should only be used to uplift in a positive manner. The removal of negative words in your vocabulary and using daily mantras and affirmations are great for speaking life into yourself and situations.

3. Proper nutrition

Have you heard the saying, “You are what you eat?” Well, it’s true! What we fuel our bodies with is imperative to physical health. Excessive exercise will never outweigh poor nutrition. The first step in creating a nutritional regimen is eliminating GMOs, which are prominent in fast food, conventional food, and processed food. GMOs are genetically modified organisms artificially manipulated in a laboratory or factory. Consuming extreme amounts of GMOs can cause an acidic pH level, which can create a great range of diseases in your body. When shopping for groceries, always shop for organic goods. Produce should be the basis of your meals. Here are a few rules of thumb to use when grocery shopping:

  • If it has more than four ingredients, DON’T BUY IT (GMO).
  • Purchase #9 bar-code produce only.
  • Always look for goods labeled Non-GMO.

  • 4. Exercise, exercise, exercise

The benefits of exercise are many and the reasons are limitless. Below, are a few that are important.

  • Exercise can help prevent weight gain and contribute to weight loss. The key to losing weight is burning more calories than you consume.
  • Exercise reduces stress. Many people claim they don’t have enough energy to exercise, but exercise actually increases your energy and creates a positive mood, thereby reducing stress.
  • Exercise prevents muscle loss. The less you use your muscles, the weaker and less functional they will become.
  • Exercise boosts brain activity. Blood flow is enhanced during exercise, allowing for faster information processing.
  • 5. Meditation

Meditation is a perfect way to balance your mind, body, and soul simultaneously. Meditation removes focus from outer distractions to your inner self, achieving fulfillment. Deep rhythmic breathing with closed eyes in a seated position is the basis of meditation. When you meditate, you allow your spirit/soul to connect with the Most High, elevating levels of consciousness and channeling light, love, well-being, joy, peace, clarity, and relaxation.

    6. Catch some zzz's

According to helpguide.org sleep is when the mind enters an altered state of consciousness while resting to restore your body every night. The sleep cycle contains Non-REM and REM sleep. Non-REM consists of four different stages. Sufficient sleep allows the nervous system to function properly and insufficient sleep can lead to health problems. Studies say that 7–9 hours of sleep is necessary for ages 18 and older. Not meeting these hours can cause sleep deprivation! Some symptoms of sleep deprivation include:

  • Fatigue
  • Lack of motivation
  • Concentration problems
  • Lack of memory
  • Limited growth
  • Weakness immune system

  • From personal experience, I perform these six aspects on a daily basis, and it has truly made me a better me. I’m sure these aspects will help create a better version of you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
