It's that time of year when everything is blooming and beautiful, except for those awful allergies that come along with it. There isn’t any way to be polite about it. Sniffling, coughing and blowing your nose can't be glamorized. Our true selves come out during these times and, in all honesty, it even seems impolite to even talk about. However, we've all found ourselves stuck in these situations year after year.
1. No medication will cure this mess.
You’ve tried everything from over the counter pills, natural remedies, and even changing up your eating habits, there is no cure for this nuisance. The medications even compound with our existing side effect of allergies themselves, like drowsiness and watery eyes.
2. Your nose is constantly red and your eyes always looks like you've been crying.
We are asked the question, "Are you crying?", more often then we should and the joke about being Rudolph gets old really fast. However, this just comes with the territory of being a privileged allergy sufferer. But really, we really need a common joke for non-allergy sufferers.
3. Always explaining to people "It's just allergies".
Yes, we look and feel like we are dying over here, but we promise, it's nothing serious. We wouldn't wish these allergies on our worst enemy.
4. You have a box of tissues everywhere.
We may as well take out stock in Kleenex for the amount of tissues we go through this time of year. Also, they’re everywhere! Jacket pockets, bags, and your car each have it’s own tissue stash.
5. Sniffling during silence is the worst.
We’ve all been in the quiet classroom or meeting with our usually awful allergies. We receive some looks from the lucky non-allergy sufferers, but if only they could understand. We have hurried through a test or stepped out of the room more than enough because of our pesky allergy problems.
6. Your voice is different for the entire season.
We always seem to adopt a new, more masculine tone this time of year. It's not like sneezing and blowing our nose are making us seem unattractive at all, so we figured we would throw in the voice to tone things down a bit.
7. You miss when everything wasn’t blooming.
Springtime is so beautiful and welcoming after seeing nothing but bare trees and shrubs all winter; however, the allergies that come along with it aren’t so welcoming. Is it too cynical to ask for everything to be basically dead again?
8. Blowing your nose loudly almost seems polite over the sniffling.
We have all contemplated at one point or another just to completely disregard the norms of society and act as if no one were around. People who are able to accomplish this are our heroes.
9. You've found there are certain types of sneezers in this world.
There’s the quiet, trying to be somewhat polite, sneezer. Then, there are also the obnoxiously loud and yelling sneezers. While everyone else in the room is suddenly startled by the loud sneezer, we disregard it. We feel your pain.
