Sister (noun):
A person created by your parents for the sole purpose of giving you a convenient girlfriend.
Well Urban Dictionary, I could not have said it better myself.
This one is for the women who know me inside and out, the people who deal with me day-to-day and never question, or fail to show their love for me. This one is for the people who have been with me since day one and will be there till day zero. This one is for my bedtime cuddlers, my taxis, my shoulders to cry on, my cleaning dancers and my very best friends. This one is for my sisters. The women who are biologically bound to me and have mentally and emotionally shared everything with me. I know every single sister knows what I'm saying when I tell you there is no relationship that is stronger than that of a sister. It is the only woman (other than your mother of course) who is your biggest fan no matter what life throws at you.
My sisters are God's most amazing gift to me. Like most women in this world, I overthink absolutely everything. I worry constantly if I am doing the right or wrong thing, or if I am coming off some sort of way. What an amazing thing it is to just have no filter at all. To just lay on someone's bed and talk feeling free to be yourself without the harsh eyes of the world staring at you.
Something I never neglect is the blessing of coming home to my sisters. The unconditional love they give me is truly a beautiful thing. It's the love that is just so natural. So easy. I know without a doubt in my brain that my sisters would do anything for me – and I mean anything. This could mean buying me tickets to Justin Timberlake that are way too expensive because they know he is the love of my life or simply staying up late with me too because I'm too scared to stay downstairs by myself.
Not only is their love pretty great, but so is their teaching. That might sound lame, but the older I get the more I realize how much my sisters have taught and influenced the person I am today. Whether they are older or younger, somehow some way, your sisters teach you something no one else could. I could identify my older sisters as the real life celebrities in my life. I look up to them and from the time I was little, adored their every move. If they loved to cook then so did I. If they shopped at Wet Seal, I shopped at Wet Seal.
Whether they sang along with me to "Barney" when I was four, helped curl my hair for homecoming, or call me when I am having anxiety attacks during finals week they are always there for me. They are the first people I look to for advice because they know me in a way no one else does. They know every little detail about me without even thinking twice. When I take the time to really think about it I realize that's pretty extraordinary.
My younger sister, on the other hand, has been with me through it all, and I really mean it all. She is my person. I tell her everything and I'm pretty sure she could write my autobiography without asking any questions. She makes me strive to be better because I want her to have someone to look up to just like I did. She always keeps me light and fun and reminds me to watch Disney movies and to have giggle attacks every now and then.
I hope that everyone out there has a sister to count on and be yourself with. I hope that you guys jam to 'NSYNC and dance to "High School Musical." I hope that they are there for you when you can't decide what to wear on your first date. I hope that they are there for you when your Mom and Dad are fighting and give you more comfort than anybody else could. I hope they are cheering you on when you receive your college acceptance letters. I hope they are standing next to you are your wedding day when you no longer have the same last name. I hope that they truly are there until day zero.
So this one is for the women I am not only biologically bound to, but the women who are my best friends and my everything. I love you.
