Signs That You're A Fashion Major

Signs That You're A Fashion Major

Being a fashion major is not as easy as everyone likes to think. Fashion majors just might be one of the few groups of college students that aren't lying to ourselves about how we really want to spend the rest of our lives. So here are a few signs that might indicate that you're a fashion major.

People tell you your major is easy.

Uh hello, this is college. Last time I checked nothing here is easy. There's no need for you to insult my major because you think it's "easy." I'll have you know that most fashion majors spend hours on end in the studio finishing projects.

People always assume you want to be a designer.

First of all, just because I'm a fashion major doesn't mean I want to be a designer. Second of all, even if I was, I would be designing for people who are much more worthy of my talents.

Adults don't understand anything you say about your major.

Adults are instantly confused as soon as you tell them you are going to school for fashion. If you're unlucky enough for them to try to start a follow-up conversation about your major, then chances are they just stare at you cluelessly.

People ask if you're going to work retail after you graduate.

No, I'm not spending thousands of dollars and four years in school just to go back to my retail job I already have. There are so many available jobs in the fashion industry, but of course no one is educated enough to understand that.

People think that you dress nice because you're a fashion major.

It's not part of my major to dress nice everyday. My apologies for actually caring about the way I look. So when I tell you that I'm a fashion major, please don't relate that back to my appearance.

Everyone judges you for dressing down.

Again, people think that because of your major you need to look flawless all the time. If I want to dress up I will, but if I want to dress down and be a bum, I will do that too. Believe it or not my major still has nothing to do with the way I dress.

You're lowkey intimidated by other fashion majors.

Anyone in your program that you haven't met is honestly terrifying. But the moment you get to know any fashion major, you realize they are just as weird as you are.

You have glued, cut, or burned some part of your body working on a project.

Fashion projects are rather dangerous. Whether it's gluing your fingers together because you're using industrial glue, or getting an extremely deep paper cut from cardboard, you have hurt yourself simply putting together a project for class.

You actually like your classes.

You might be a fashion major if you like your classes. One thing I've noticed about fashion majors is we picked this major because it's something that genuinely interests us, not for some dumb reason like money (even though with the right career, we will be making plenty). Compared to most majors, we are so inspired by our majors that we don't have to be emotionally ready, because we are always ready.

These are just a few things that we as fashion majors get just about on a daily basis. Most remarks come from people who don't understand our major or why we chose to study fashion. But we love and understand our majors and we are happy to follow this path for the rest of our lives. So fashion majors everywhere, stay fierce.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
