7 Signs That You Are Procrastinating

We all procrastinate. Sometimes we go out, work out, bake two dozen cookies, write a two page poem and maybe paint something that has nothing to do with what needs to be done. A lot of us justify procrastination by saying it "needed to be done" and "I got work done." Here are some signs that you are procrastinating even though it may be considered productive in many settings.

1. You start cleaning and doing laundry.

It’s Tuesday night and you have an assignment due tomorrow for an 8:50 a.m. class. Instead of working on your homework you notice that everything in your room is disgusting and requires cleaning. Then you realize that you have to do a load of laundry and separate your darks from your whites. You are so focused with laundry that you forget about that reading response that is due tomorrow. Well, at least you have clean underwear and all of your laundry is organized.

2. You do tasks that are not due for weeks.

You have an assignment due in two days so you decide to focus your time on that paper that is due in two weeks. Makes sense right? It’s called planning ahead. You are a great planner. That paper that is due in two days can wait.

3. You make plans to go out.

Your friends invite you for last minute plans and you nearly jump up from your desk in excitement. You found an excuse to escape statistics once again. You instead spend the night indulging in fish tacos and margaritas. And don't worry, the fish was fresh and your bartender was cute.

4. You binge watch Netflix.

You heard about "Jessica Jones" and "Fuller House." Several hours later you question your existence but feel you got a lot accomplished by finishing a show. The only question left is - what show is next?

5. You start FaceTiming and Skyping people.

That supposable 20-minute conversation with the babe turned into three hours of small talk and your GPA sinking. At least you have your weekend figured out. You are going to the beach and watching the new Captain American movie.

6. You do some online shopping.

Guilty pleasures are sometimes found online. After all you have Prime shipping from Amazon and there are so many things you totally need that are free shipping. Eventually, you forget what you ordered within the two-hour timespan, but hey it must have been pretty important since you bought it.

7. You read this whole list.

Reading this whole list about the signs of procrastination suggests that you are in fact procrastinating. Don’t sweat it we’ve all been there. Just get out there and get some work done.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
