Maybe you met at a party. Maybe you met in an elevator or in class. You could have even been childhood friends who turned into something more, but no matter how you met, being in a relationship has changed you in many ways. Suddenly “us” has an entirely different meaning, and everything you do affects your significant other. Your reputation is a reflection of their choices and the other way around.
So, what happened? What happened to the person who was always down for a good party just months ago? What happened to every night being a girls/guys night? Here’s an explanation for those of you who have started acting like grandparents well before your time.
1. "Netflix and chill" is actually just "Netflix and chill"
Netflix and chill has taken on a meaning other than just watching movies and hanging out, but when you’ve been dating someone long enough, sometimes you actually want to pay attention to the movie.
2. Brushing your teeth right away in the morning is an unnecessary hassle
Why would I want to get up from my comfortable bed to brush my teeth? If you can’t handle my morning breath, then you can’t handle me.
3. You don’t have motivation to make it out of the pregame
Sometimes a nap is more exciting than the party you just wasted all your time and alcohol pregaming for.
4. You are comfortable enough around each other that you don’t have to pretend you wear pants to bed
Yes, these are granny panties. Yes, they are extremely comfortable.
5. Whenever you are asked if you’re going out on a Friday or Saturday night, you mutually think of excuses
Well, we have lots of homework and tests to study for…but in all seriousness you are actually just going to enjoy a few extra hours of sleep and uninterrupted TV.
6. Hosting movie nights is an every night kind of thing
Because what’s better than being social but still not having to move out of the comfort of your own bed?
7. You have started Netflix shows together
And you get angry if one of you watches it without the other.
8. You have become friends with all their friends
You’ve been together so long that your friends have become their friends and vice versa.
9. You look forward to the weekend to catch up on sleep
You don’t find stumbling through the door at 3 a.m. as exciting as you used to and would much rather be cuddled up in bed at an earlier hour.
10. You are comfortable around each other’s families
You’ve met the fam multiple times. Your siblings love them and their siblings love you. Of course, you still get nervous talking to their parents, but it’s not as bad as that first time.
11. Saying/doing gross things isn't something you try to avoid
You basically just say what you want, when you want, and you don't care.
12. They know your class schedule
When they’ve memorized your class schedule, you’ve probably spent too much time together.
13. Their opinion matters
No, you aren’t whipped or your S/O’s bitch -- you just respect their opinion and know that when you don’t see the sense in something, they most likely do.
Well, Grandma and Grandpa, you know who you are. Sometimes being an “old boring couple” isn’t nearly as bad as it sounds. Yeah, you may seem boring from the perspective of other people, but they’re just mad they don’t have someone to take naps with whenever they want. If you aren’t a boring old couple, then you are probably friends with one.
