When you were younger, being sick was the highlight of your year. Sometimes, or if you're like me more than that, you would even pretend to be sick in order to get the royal treatment. You got to sleep in, miss class with relatively no worries, your mom would tend to your every need, and everyone would rejoice at your return once you came back.
However, being sick in college is a little different.
You can't really miss class because of participation points and it would put you behind almost an eternity in terms of work. And the truly scary part is that there is nobody really around to care for you other than yourself. Not to mention, trying to get any work done while feeling any kind of icky is one of the hardest things to do.
So, even if it is an easy lecture to miss, getting the work you have done for that class is almost always a no-go while sick.
Laying in your bed, the worry of all that you're missing out on creeps up on you. Your room is silent during the day when everyone is out getting their work done and you watch helplessly as your friends try on outfit after outfit in anticipation of a night out you'll be missing. Not only that, but the gunk and germs building up within you starts to build up in your "I'll clean it on Sunday" type of room.
While this sounds scary, it's only a few days max. And once it's over, you begin to appreciate your daily routine and schedule. Not only that, but you realize how important it is to be their for your friends whenever they need. Living on your own, or without parents, sparks a newfound appreciation for those surrounding you. You have to rely heavily on your friends, your step in parents at this time and hope that maybe one of them will remember to bring you soup on their way home.
