For some reason, whenever I watch a show that's got incredibly smart people, I feel way more motivated about my education. I don't know why this is, but it just is. So whether or not you're back at school and in classes, or you're starting to get everything packed up, here are some shows that will get you motivated to be smarter and more studious. And at the very least, they'll get you through syllabus week.
**Caution: You will probably get addicted and not want to do anything but watch every episode.
1. "West Wing"
"West Wing" is a political drama about the President of the United States and his staff. This show is fill with inspiration, highly educated people and it made me consider being a speech writer. With Charlie Sheen's dad as President Bartlett, and Rob Lowe (a very cute, young Rob Lowe) as Sam.
2. "Grey's Anatomy"
I feel like this one needs very little explanation. Who, honestly, has not seen this show by now? But, if you're one of the few that's been living under a rock, here's the deets... Meredith is balancing being human and a doctor ( harder than it sounds). Not only is Meredith's education and vastly knowledge impressive, but her colleagues are as well (I mean hello, they're doctors).
Plus, I'm pretty sure this is where the idea of marrying a hot doctor started.
3. "Sherlock"
I know Sherlock probably didn't actually go to (nor did he need to go to) college, but he's just so smart that I was immediately envious. This show totally made me want to hit the books. You know, after I finished watching every episode.
4. "Gilmore Girls"
Rory is smart. She's read every book on my to read list, and she attends Yale after turning Harvard down. Listening to her quip and talk about all the books that she's read and would recommend to others certainly made me want to check them off my list. If Rory alone isn't enough to inspire you to academic excellence, than look no further than Paris Gheller; Rory's long term rival turned friend and another brainiac.
5. "How to Get Away with Murder"
Once again, this is another show that had a brilliant lead, but here there's also not quite as, but still brilliant students surrounding her. While there may be a bit of mischief, I still wanted to be a lawyer/Annalise Keating/Viola Davis for a while. Viola Davis is amazing and the guy who plays Wes was Dean Thomas in Harry Potter.
So there you have it: a new list of shows to start binge watching. Plus, these show just may get you motivated for the start of classes.
