Everyone's got their favorites -- whether it be crime, sci-fi, comedy, or drama, there's a reason certain television series have stuck around for so long (and why you always hear everyone around you watching the same shows). Here's a list of the 17 most binge-worthy shows (in my opinion):
1. The Originals
If you're into the whole vampire, werewolf, witches etc. mixed in with lots of sexy accents and drama, drama, drama, then this is for you. A spinoff of The Vampire Diaries (see number 3), this is totally bingeworthy if you're in the mood for some mindless television.
2. What I Like About You
This might be Amanda Bynes' most underrated appearance. Back before her bleach blonde hair, multiple piercings (and arrests), she starred in this romcom. With each episode only being 20ish minutes, it's super easy to binge through the whole series (it also doesn't hurt that there are plenty of shirtless abtastic guys to oogle, and the plot is super easy to follow).
3. Private Practice
If you've already watched Grey's Anatomy (see number 2), then definitely binge this next. I can't be the only one that wanted Addison Montgomery (Shephard?) to get her happy ending. Not quite as good as Grey's, but for a spinoff, definitely worth the watch.
4. The Carrie Diaries
If you haven't see Sex and the City, you are severely missing out. If you have, then this show should definitely be next on your list. The prequel to the infamous Carrie Bradshaw, CW provided the story everyone wanted to see -- how Carrie ended up in NYC. (This one's a quickie, it was cancelled after 2 seasons).
5. How I Met Your Mother
Just like Friends, this show is a classic must-watch. The episodes are only 20ish minutes each, so it's super easy to accidentally watch an entire season in just a short period of time. Despite the light nature of most of the show, it is about Ted finding his wife. Definitely a legend-wait for it-dary show to binge.
6. Riverdale
With only the first season (13 episodes) out, this is a quick binge, but will leave you hanging on your seat waiting for the next season to come out. Yes, technically the town and characters are based off of the Archie and Jughead comics, the show is nothing like it. If you grew up watching Cole Sprouse on the Suite Life of Zach and Cody as the cute, nerdy twin, then you're in for a shock when you see him (with raven-dark hair I might add) as Juggy.
7. Sex and the City
You really can't miss Samantha Jones' iconic lines and the epicness that is Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big. This makes you question why any female in her 20's would want to live anywhere but the Big Apple. Bonus: Besides the television series, there's 2 movies that are basically extended versions of the series.
8. 90210 (new version)
Even though technically a few of the characters are from the original, the remake of 90210 is definitely worth the watch. You'll get sucked into all of the drama, and you really won't be able to decide fi you love or hate Naomi.
9. 13 Reasons Why
With each episode being a different tape, they all leave you wanting to watch until you finish all 13 episodes. As you progress to the later episodes, the tapes get more and more intense. For a TV show that was based off a book, this definitely is wroth watching.
10. Gossip Girl
Firstly, life on the Upper East Side does not exactly follow the depictions in this show (okay, not even remotely close). The twisted messages Gossip Girl releases makes you wonder how secretive anything really is. However, the entire series will have you rooting for Lonely Boy, and will make you question the power giving someone a second chance can have. This is probably one of the only shows ever to have the perfect ending.
11. One Tree Hill
Nathan Scott gives unrealistic expectations for a girl being able to change a bad guy into a good one. The ups and downs of the lives of the Tree Hill Ravens make you wish you had gone to school in North Carolina. After all, there really is only One Tree Hill.
12. Law and Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU)
This is one of those shows that has been around forever, and if you've never seen it at all, you probably don't watch television (like, at all). With reruns of old episodes on tv, it's hard to decide sometimes whether the new episodes or the old ones are better. This is a show that you don't have to watch in sequential order to get what goes on (although some of the later seasons make more sense if you watch them in order). The best seasons by far are 1-12, and I'll leave it up to you, but Benson and Stabler may be the most iconic duo out there.
13. Shameless
2 words: Lip. Gallagher. Hands down you will be obsessed with him after watching the first episode. The ridiculously smart, hot in an I-don't-give-a-sh*t-how-I-look, bad boy that still has a soft spot for his siblings. The Gallagher family makes any family problem you've ever faced seem like nothing (all while keeping you entertained). Despite being a raging drunk, Frank Gallagher will still be someone you can't hate.
14. Scandal
Shondaland does it again. With all the twists and turns that this show takes, you would think Shonda Rhimes is really running the country (sometimes the plots are insanely accurate to what goes on in reality, even before it happens). With seven seasons already out and the eighth (and final season) premiering next year, Scandal isn't too much of a commitment, but it's definitely long enough to get you hooked.
15. The Vampire Diaries
If you haven't already watched (or if you stopped halfway through the series), this is another must-watch. The Salvatore Brothers definitely give new meaning to family drama. With the series finale having been this past spring, you can binge all 8 seasons without fear of catching up and having to wait for more episodes. The ending is *almost* perfect.
16. Grey's Anatomy
This is a commitment for watching (season 14 premiers in the fall). Be warned, you will most definitely need a box of tissues (or 3) to get through some of these episodes. McDreamy, McSteamy, the Plastics Posse, and a few others will definitely make you wonder how a single hospital ends up with so many hot docs (and how so many bad things can happen to just a small group of people). You'll also really question the use of on-call rooms in hospitals. It is occasionally hard to keep up with who's with who, and what the name of the hospital is.
17. Friends
I can almost guarantee there is not a single list of must-watch (or must-binge) shows that does not include "Friends". Despite the show being from the late 90s/early 2000s, you can watch all 10 seasons over and over again without being bored. Perfect to watch when you're having some insomnia, sitting through a long ride of travel, or you know, if you're on a break.
