10 Things You Should Know Before Going To Prom

Prom is one of the last times you get to dress up with your friends and it's also one of the last memories of high school you'll probably have. A lot of things go into making this night a good one, but there really is no perfect recipe.

Here are 10 things you need to know before prom.

1. Not everything will go as expected.

With planning things like this, you need to leave room for things simply not going your way. As much as you may try to have it go to plan and it to be perfect, it will not go to plan. You will have to at least once improvise.

2. You do not need to spend a TON of money.

Trust me, there is no need to break your piggy bank. You can have a good time and not spend an excessive amount of money.

3. You don’t need a date.

People stress about this way too often. Sometimes going with a group of friends is a better move than going with a date.

4. Make sure you wear what YOU want.

Often you see people complying to others on their outfits. It is your night after all, sowear what you want to wear.

5. It’s not the most magical night.

You will see and hear things, that you did not want to hear. Most likely when you walk into the bathroom, there will be a girl crying and another throwing up from being so drunk.

6. You are not forced to go.

I know it may seem like everyone hypes it and people will tell you, you have to go; but you don’t. School dances aren’t everyone’s thing.

7. Don’t forget to take pictures!

It will be one of your last high school memories, so take pictures. Take lots of them.

8. Leave the drama somewhere else.

This is not the night to stir up and argument or bring up past issues. This is one of the last nights you will have with your friends as a high schooler, so enjoy it and don’t let negativity get to you.

9. Schedule things ahead of time.

Make sure you hair and nail appointments are done ahead of time. Dinner reservations are important, so make sure you plan your other plans around it.

10. It won’t be perfect, but enjoy it.

Try to not stress a lot about the details. Just let loose and have a good time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
