These days many people make extra cash or a living with small businesses. Social media is full of people promoting what they're selling from beauty products, clothing, handmade jewelry, and artwork. Some are hesitant to shop small businesses because there is still an idea that the big stores are cheaper, and it always feels easier to go to Walmart down the street. There are several reasons you should support small businesses.

1. It's not always more expensive.

The stigma with small businesses is, unlike Walmart and other chain stores, they cannot make their products reasonably priced. False! Big stores go by MSRP, the manufacturers suggested retail. They aren't able to place products on sale; they have to wait for the manufacturer to do so. Which is rare, because they want their products to sell at MSRP!

2. You know where your money is going.

One of the best aspects of shopping small businesses is knowing exactly where your money is going. It's rewarding seeing your money go to a college student trying to make extra cash or a soccer mom supporting her kids as opposed to a large chain store.

3. You can receive unique products.

Another plus is you know what you're getting! You get a better product that can be personalized to your needs! Whether it's custom jewelry or artwork, the gift you receive is unique. The photos above and below are examples of custom products that you can order!

Small businesses provide one-on-one customer service that is better than anywhere else. Typically, if you aren't satisfied with the product, you can get your money back and try something else. This makes it so much easier to try new products!

4. Support your friends!

Selling products, whether custom and handmade or through a business, is becoming a popular way of making money. Many of our friends and family are starting to do this. So this Holiday Season, shop small businesses. Buy from friends and family, and give a gift that cannot be found anywhere else!

Plus, anytime you need gift ideas, you can turn to small businesses surrounding you. The products are limitless and unique, the service is personal, and it's a chance to support your friends!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
