We are living in a society; a world that has mixed opinions and feelings about sexual assault. But sexual assault is sexual assault.
Different sides of politics and different people stand up for victims of sexual assault. But there are also people who stand up for the people who are sexually assaulting other people.
It is often blamed on the victim with questions like "Why were you so drunk?" or "Why did you let that happen to you?" This should not be the case, different situations pose different questions.
In multiple situations, sexual assault occurs in colleges during or after parties with two strangers. But there are other instances that involve people who have known each other for a long period of time.
A case that is currently on going and infamous is the case of Kesha vs Dr. Luke. Kesha filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke after alleged verbal and sexual abuse that led her to bulimia. It is clear that this topic and issue is present in our society even in the lives of the people we look up to. Kesha is currently unable to do what she loves because someone decided to take advantage of her. I am a lover of music and it's painful and heartbreaking to see her inability to do her work and what makes herself so many other people happy.
The idea of people thinking they have the right to defile another human being is horrible to think about. Colleges around the country are home to people who think they have the ability and right to take advantage of women as well as men.One in five women in college have been sexually assaulted in some way. Think about that; in a group of five friends one of them will be physically effected by this but all five of them will feel the emotional damage. The four other friends will inevitably be there for the fifth friend through the horrible time she has had after. Not only will her friends be effected, but her family as well. Her parents, her siblings... They will all feel pain for her and anger toward who ever took advantage of her.
This is just one situation that could occur in one place. Colleges are absolutely not the only place that sexual assault occurs. Although, recently the issues that have been shown in the news nation wide have happened in college atmospheres. Regardless of where or when it takes place sexual assault is not okay. If there is no consent it is sexual assault period.
Sexual assault is sexual assault and it is not something that should ever be joked about or taken lightly.
